On October 22, 2020, at approximately 2:30 p.m., deputies from the Kern Valley Substation were dispatched to the 4400 block of Brooks Road in Weldon regarding an assault with a deadly weapon investigation. When deputies arrived, they learned the suspect, 34-year-old Paul Schnell, fired a pistol at three subjects after an argument over property. The Kern County Sheriff's Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), Air Support Unit, and Bomb Squad responded to assist in safely arresting Schnell at his residence on Brooks Road, but he was not located.
Deputies obtained a felony warrant for Schnell’s arrest for attempt murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and negligent discharge of a firearm. Schnell is a white male with blonde hair and blues eyes, stands 6’-6,” and weighs 240 pounds.
