Scam Alert

SCAM ALERT: We are taking reports this afternoon that scammers are claiming to be the Social Security Administration and are using OPD's phone number (513-524-5240) when making the call. They are scaring their victims by claiming their social security account is at risk and the only way to save it is to send money via Bitcoin by using a barcode that was provided to them by the scammers. Unfortunately, this scammer was successful.
Another scam which was unsuccessful was the "U.S. Marshalls" giving some weird story and then wanting access to the person's bank account information. Once the person heard this, he hung up on the scammer.
REMINDER: Government entities will never ask you to pay in iTunes cards, Bitcoin, Western Union, etc. No legitimate agency or company is going to ask you to pay up to avoid being further victimized. Legitimate companies don't ask for access to your financial records on a cold call. These are all red flags. It's simple--hang up.
