Hazardous Weather Outlook_ Tropical Storm Zeta SHERIFF VICTOR HILL
STORM POTENTIAL - Tropical Storm Zeta
Tropical Storm Zeta will make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast today with life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds, and flooding. As Zeta's moisture moves northward, heavy rainfall will develop across much of the Southeast before advancing into the Appalachians, Ohio Valley, and Mid Atlantic tonight into Thursday. This rainfall will lead to flash, urban, small stream, and minor river flooding.
Overview: Tropical Storm Zeta will continue to move toward northwest/west Georgia by Thursday morning, moving northeast across the local forecast area through the day on Thursday. Periods of heavy rain are expected across the area with rain bands associated with Zeta as it weakens and moves through Georgia.
Impact: Heavy Rain / Flood Threat / Gusty Winds
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect as periods of heavy rainfall are expected along and north of the I-85 corridor today, and into this evening as well as on Thursday. Widespread rain in the amount of 2" to 4" with locally higher amounts will be possible for those within the Flash Flood Watch, especially along and north of the I-85 corridor. The current track forecast, gusty winds 35-45 MPH will be possible on Thursday as Zeta crosses the area. Gusty winds will also be possible in stronger showers/embedded thunderstorms. Please note rainfall could be higher than forecasted.
Your EMA team will continue to monitor the storm and provide updates as the forecast evolves.
Safety Message: With already saturated grounds from previous rainfall, periods of heavy rainfall may lead to localized flash flooding and flooding of rivers and streams. In addition, with trees already losing leaves, drains may become easily clogged in periods of rainfall, exacerbating the flooding of low-lying areas.
