NC 226 North approximately 1/2 mile from the intersection of US 221 remains closed due to a landslide. NC DOT is working hard to remove the debris and stabilze the area. The road could possibly reopen on Saturday afternoon.
To ensure residents have timely access to emergency services, agencies including McDowell EMS, Woodlawn Fire Department, and the McDowell Sheriff's Office have personnel and apparatus staged on the north side of the slide. This will ensure a timely response to all emergencies occurring in Little Switzerland, Turkey Cove, Coxes Creek and along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Coordination has also occurred with emergency agencies in Mitchell County.
