El Cerrito Police Department Blotter - Oct. 23rd until Oct 29th, 2020

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

October 23rd:

Vandalism - 1400 block of Norvell St:
At 9:00 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke a window to a City of El Cerrito recreation building sometime during the evening.

Driving Under the Influence – Carlson Blvd. at Central Avenue.
At 7:45 PM officers were dispatched to a vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection. When the officers arrived, they found a woman passed out in the driver seat. She was determined to be under the influence of controlled substances. She was transported to the hospital via ambulance and later then booked at the Martinez County Jail.

Shooting into an Inhabited Dwelling – 6300 block of Conlon Avenue;
At 8:24 PM officers were dispatched to the report of a bullet coming through the window of home. Officers arrived and found that a bullet had shattered a sliding glass door and was located inside the residence. No suspect was seen.

October 24th:
Sexual Battery – 10759 San Pablo Ave (Marshalls):
At 9:56 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect approached the victim inside the business and rubbed up against the victim inappropriately several times while watching pornography on his phone. The crime occurred the day prior but was not reported until the 24th.

Warrant Arrest – 1751 Eastshore Blvd:
At 2:49 pm, an officer contacted 37-year-old man to the rear of the closed business and found the man had a warrant for his arrest. The man was arrested and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft – 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joes):
At 2:56 pm, an officer reports the victim inadvertently set his wallet down and when he returned the wallet was gone. A review of camera surveillance footage showed the suspect pick up the wallet and walk away.

Sexual Battery – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 8:17 PM officers were dispatched to the report of a battery where the suspect inappropriately touched a juvenile victim while she was shopping. The suspect was stopped outside of the store and was placed under citizen’s arrest after he was identified by the victim. The suspect was also identified as the suspect in the battery cases which was reported on Oct. 24th. He was booked at ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – I-80 at Central Avenue:
At 1:15 AM an officer pulled a vehicle over that had been reported stolen to the Vallejo Police Department. The driver was arrested, booked at the ECPD, and then released on a citation.

Assault with a Semi-Automatic Firearm – 11900 block of San Pablo Avenue:
At 3:14 AM officers were dispatched to a person in the roadway. When officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim ran to that location after being shot at the above address. The victim was taken to a hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled onto the Ohlone Greenway. Detectives arrived on scene and began to investigate the crime.

October 25th:

Brandishing, Vandalism – 11319 San Pablo Avenue (Chevron):
At 7:56 am, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 40-year-old woman after she flattened the victim’s vehicle’s tires with a pickaxe and then chased the victim around the vehicle with the axe. The woman was detained by responding officers without incident and subsequently issued a citation and released at the scene due to a medical condition.

Grand Theft – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 11:35 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business and stole $1K+ of merchandise before fleeing the store.

Grand Theft – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Bed, Bath and Beyond):
At 2:18 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered the business dressed in a delivery uniform and then exited the store with merchandise totaling $1K+.

Organized Retail Theft – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 4:51 pm, an officer reported a group of three juveniles entered the store and stole numerous items before fleeing to the rear of the business.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery – Moeser Lane at Liberty Street:
At 2:39 AM an officer found an unoccupied stolen vehicle parked at this location. The vehicle was reported stolen to the Fairfield Police Department.

October 26th:

Vehicle Theft- 3200 block of Belmont Avenue:
An unknown suspect stole a Yamaha motorcycle which was parked along the curb. The theft took place sometime during the night of the 26th.

October 27th:

Grand Theft- 300 block of Carmel Avenue:
An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Prius sometime during the early morning hours of the 27th.

Vandalism- 7550 Schmidt Lane:
During the early evening hours, an unknown suspect cut the fencing to the City of El Cerrito Corporation Yard. Once inside the premises, the suspect gathered numerous items, placed them into a pile, but left without them.

Battery- 11565 San Pablo Avenue:
At 8:17 am, a male subject battered a security guard who had asked the subject to leave. The security guard was punched in the face several times. The suspect was later identified by officers a local transient.

Robbery – 11300 block of San Pablo Avenue:
At 5:31 am, an officer reports two masked subjects entered a business carrying power tools and a large pry tool. The clerk was too terrified to call for help. They took turns cutting open a Bitcoin ATM machine and looking out the front. After removing the cash box from the machine, the suspects fled to an awaiting vehicle and fled the area.

October 28th:

Burglary- 700 block of Elm Street:
During the night of the 27th, a suspect entered an open garage and stole two bicycles and a leaf blower. In the early morning hours, prior to the report being made, an officer stopped a subject pushing a road bike and carrying the leaf blower. The subject was a 22-year-old Richmond man who was on three separate probation dockets from various offenses including burglaries in El Cerrito. The leaf blower was collected at that time for observation and then returned to the property owner after the burglary was discovered.

October 29th:

Vehicle Theft- 700 block of Everett Street:
An unknown suspect stole a 2004 Ford E-350 van sometime during the night of the 28th.

Warrant Arrest- 1400 block of South 56th Street:
At 8:29 am, officers were dispatched to a call of a person looking into apartments. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a 38-year-old man who was wanted on a parole violation warrant. The man was booked and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
