Northfield Twp Police handled 519 calls for service this month

10/01/2020 *Harassing Phone Calls
Officers mediated an ex-boyfriend/ girlfriend situation involving continued unwanted communications – The caller (ex-boyfriend) was explained the MI Criminal Law that the subject was breaking and advised that all contact was to cease. Case resolved with no prosecution was desired.

10/04/2020 *Arrest – Driving on a Suspended License
8 Mile & U.S. 23 – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle disregard the traffic signal. During the traffic stop, the Officer discovered the driver had a suspended drivers’ license and the vehicle was not insured. The driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded.

10/07/2020 *Accidental Property Damage
600 Block of Turquoise Dr – A complainant reported that during garbage pickup, the refuse company pushed a can into a vehicle parked at her residence. The can caused damage to the vehicle’s taillight. The complainant was provided a report number and advised to contact the company involved.

10/08/2020 *Open Door Investigation
9400 Block of Main St - A neighbor reported that an unoccupied residence had its’ door standing open. An Officer responded and checked the property finding no signs of forced entry and no damage to the interior. The residence was secured.

10/08/2020 *Malicious Destruction of Property
9000 Block of Timbercrest – A complainant reported that a vehicle fled after causing damage to tires of three parked vehicles. With the assistance of video footage and social medial a 19 year old suspect was identified. The suspect agreed to restitution and no criminal charges were filed.

10/09/2020 *Suspicious Vehicle
1600 Block of West Northfield Church – A complainant reported that an unfamiliar vehicle with an out of state plate was parked on her property. The investigation revealed the vehicle owner and a legitimate reason for being on the property.

10/09/2020 *Fraudulent use of a Credit Card
9400 Block of Wildwood – A complainant reported that unauthorized charges were made against her credit card. A report was documented and the financial institution is working with the complainant.

10/09/2020 *Suspended License/Crash Investigation
Eagle Garden Subdivision- While investigating a crash report- the Officer discovered the driver of the striking vehicle had a suspended license with an order to confiscate the license plate. In addition, the driver had outstanding misdemeanor warrants and was advised to contact the court to take care of these matters.

10/12/2020 *Arrest – Driving on Suspended License
Shady Beach & Main St – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner. The Officer made a traffic stop and determined the driver was driving with a suspended license. The driver was arrested and the vehicle turned over to the registered owner. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office awaiting charges.

10/14/2020 *Impounded Non-Insured Vehicle
U.S 23 & N. Territorial – An Officer on patrol made a traffic stop of a speeding vehicle. The traffic stop revealed that the driver did not have insurance on the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and the driver and occupant transported to a safe place awaiting a ride.

10/16/2020 *Larceny of Yard Sign
4300 Block of E North Territorial – A complainant reported that sometime between 8 pm on October 15 and the morning of October 16; unknown subject(s) removed a homemade political sign from the complainant’s property. No suspects or evidence have been developed; if anyone has information regarding this incident they are asked to contact Northfield Twp Police.

10/16/2020 *Disorderly Conduct
East Shore – Officers responded to a disorderly group of subjects. Officers arrived and determined a conflict had occurred between neighbors. Neither neighbor desired criminal charges; Officers served one trespass notice.

10/24/2020 *Larceny of Yard Signs
Margaret St – A complainant reported that sometime between 7 pm on October 23 and 10 am October 24; an unknown suspect removed a political sign from the complainant's front yard. No evidence or witnesses were available at the time of the report.

10/24/2020 *Violation of Conservation Laws
5300 Block of Earhart – An Officer responded to view an unusual circumstance of a dead deer. DNR was contacted regarding this matter.

10/26/2020 *Fraud
7700 Block of Dixboro – A complainant reported that someone used her PayPal account to make an authorized purchase. The case remains under investigation.

10/28/2020 *Retail Fraud
6800 Block of Whitmore Lake Rd – A complainant reported that at approximately 1pm a white male suspect parked in the handicapped spot walked into the business, grabbed items off the shelf and fled in a gold colored Chevy Suburban. No evidence was left at the scene.

10/29/2020 *Arrest –Warrant for Violation of a Personal Protective Order
Officers received information from a county law enforcement jurisdiction requesting a subject be arrested for violating a PPO order. The subject was located, arrested and turned over to the jurisdiction holding the warrant.

10/29/2020 *Intimidation / Threats
Emerald Circle – A complainant reported that he responded to an Instagram notification that the he had won a monetary prize. The complainant began receiving threats when the complainant did not send money to receive the cash prize. At the time of the report, Officers and the complainant were unable to determine the source of the communication. The complainant was advised to have no further communication with any messages.

10/30/2020 * Arrest -Operating While Intoxicated
U.S. 23 & 6 Mile Rd – An Officer on patrol observed unsafe driving behaviors which suggested the operator may be under the influence of intoxicants. During the traffic stop the officer further recognized the driver displayed signs of intoxication and confirmed the signs through sobriety tasks. The driver was arrested and due to Covid a blood test was requested and consented to. The case remains open pending the lab results.

10/30/2020 *Larceny of Yard Signs
1900 Block of Seven Mile Rd –A complainant reported that sometime during the night of October 29 to October 30 someone stole her political sign. The complainant further stated that this was the 3rd sign stolen. There were no witnesses or evidence at the time of the report.
