Public Safety Officer Announcement
The Harper Woods Public Safety Department is accepting applications for the position of Public Safety Officer (PSO) to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies within our agency.
Applicants must be hardworking, self- motivated, possess a strong moral and ethical base, and have a passion for community policing and public service.
Requirements:
• U.S. Citizen
• 18 years of age or older
• Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license
• No felony convictions and / or disqualifying criminal history
• Meet Licensing Standards for Michigan Commission on Law
Enforcement Standards (MCOLES)
• Provide proof of academy graduation and licensed / licensable
through MCOLES
or
• At least 2 years of out of state experience and have received a
license through MCOLES.
• Be currently enrolled in a Police or Fire Academy.
The Harper Woods Public Safety Department is progressing toward a new public safety department with members who are dedicated to the community’s expectations of professional and community-oriented police services.
The Public Safety Officer (PSO) position requires applicants to be cross – trained in both Police and Firefighting. (Any required training will be provided at no cost once hired.) Preference will be given to applicants who have already obtained an MCOLES license or Firefighter I and II certifications. However, pre-service applicants will also be considered for any future vacancy.
Currently the Public Safety Department has twenty- seven sworn full-time officers including Detectives, Police K-9, Special Response Team members, and a Stolen Vehicle Task Force Officer. The department also has 6 full-time fire fighters who are augmented by cross-trained police officers during fire incidents. The public safety department provides comprehensive and proactive police training covering all aspects of modern policing and fire training. Salary range is $39,663.10 – $65,902.10. Increased starting salary will be considered for prior police or firefighting experience.
