Increase in Telephone Scams
The Mill Valley Police Department has been made aware by citizens and some employees that there has been an increase in telephone scams. The majority of these calls have been made by someone falsely representing PG&E, threatening to shut off power if a payment is not made immediately over the phone or that you have a refund available to you.
PG&E has stated that they are aware of these scams and will never ask for financial information or immediate payment with a prepaid cash card over the phone. If you ever doubt the validity of a call, please call PG&E directly and speak to a representative (800-743-5000). If you have fallen victim to a scam, call the Mill Valley Police Department’s non-emergency line at (415) 389-4100 to speak to an officer.
