Increased COVID-19 numbers force rollback


Contra Costa Health Services announced today that due to a marked increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the county that they are modifying the health order to try to curtail the increase. The new health order will take effect as of Friday.
 
Contra Costa County is currently in the orange tier on the State of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. However, if numbers continue to rise, the state could place Contra Costa County into the more restrictive red tier as early as next week. 
 
The new Health Order issued today is aimed at reining in some of the riskier indoor activities allowed in the orange tier in hopes of preventing outbreaks and a rollback to red tier restrictions.  The new order, which takes effect Friday November 6, 2020, includes:
 

• Outdoor bars prohibited (except where allowed under restaurant guidance with drinks as part of a meal)
• Indoor dining allowed at a maximum of 25% occupancy or 100 people, whichever is fewer (down from 50% occupancy and 200 people)
• Indoor movie theaters can operate at a maximum 25% of occupancy or 100 people, whichever is fewer (down from 50% occupancy or 200 people)
• Religious services indoors allowed at a maximum 25% occupancy or 100 people, whichever is fewer (down from 50% occupancy or 200 people)
• Cardrooms and satellite wagering sites can’t operate indoors (they previously could operate indoors at 25% capacity)

 
 
For now, other activities not cited in the new order will still be allowed under orange-tier criteria, including indoor swimming pools and indoor family entertainment centers can continue “naturally distanced” activities, such as bowling alleys, escape rooms and climbing-wall gyms, at 25% occupancy.
 
Contra Costa County is still in the orange tier, but case rates are increasing again into the more restrictive red-tier level. The most recent data show an adjusted rate of 4.9 daily cases per 100,000 people in Contra Costa – above the orange-tier benchmark of fewer than 4 per 100,000 people.

Danville is continuing to see a downward trend in our COVID-19 numbers.  According to the County Health Services website, Danville is seeing a rate of 52.4 per 100k, down significantly from two weeks ago.  We encourage residents to continue following the health guidelines, wear facial coverings and use social distancing in public.  It is also recommended that those with jobs that bring them in frequent contact with the public should consider getting a COVID-19 test every 30 days.  Tests can be scheduled on the Health Services website www.coronavirus.cchealth.org.
