El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter October 30th - November 5th, 2020

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

October 30th:

Shoplifting, Warrant Arrest – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 8:31 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 19-year-old woman who was observed by the officer running from the business with stolen property. The woman also had a warrant for her arrest and was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Possession of Controlled Substances – San Pablo Avenue at Moeser Lane:
At 11:54 pm an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and found the driver was on probation for robbery. During a probation search the officer found methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin in the vehicle. The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued a citation and released.

October 31st

Battery – BART path / Schmidt Lane:
At 9:53 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect shoved the victim’s to the ground while the victim was riding a bicycle.

Warrant Arrest – 10700 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 11:44 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 54-year-old man after determining the man had a warrant. The man was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Forgery – 10394 San Pablo Ave (California Check Cashing):
At 1:52 pm, an officer reports the arrest of a 20-year-old woman while she was attempting to pass a fictitious check at the business. The woman was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department and later released on a citation.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle, Warrant Arrest – 7000 block of El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1:53 pm, an officer reports the arrest of a 62-year-old man who was found driving a vehicle reported stolen to the Emeryville Police Department several days earlier. The man also had several warrants for his arrest and was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Vehicle Tampering – 6700 Fairmount Ave (R & R Auto):
At 2:33 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the parking lot of the business and broke a window to a vehicle parked there. The suspect rummaged through the vehicle but no loss was reported.

Residential Burglary – 7200 block of Cutting Blvd.:
An officer responded to the report of a residential burglary. The homeowner reported someone entered their home and stole property from inside earlier in the day.

November 1st
Grand Theft – 1000 block of Contra Costa Dr:
At 1:47 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the evening.

Vandalism – 700 block of Colusa Ave:
At 2:15 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke the rear passenger window to the victim’s vehicle. No entry was made to the vehicle and no loss was reported.

Vehicle Tampering – 700 block of Colusa Ave:
At 2:32 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke the front passenger side window to the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through the interior; however no loss was reported.

License Plate Theft – 3200 block of Santa Clara Ave:
At 3:11 pm, an officer reports the rear plate was stolen from the victim’s vehicle sometime during the past several days.

Vehicle Tampering – 7300 block of Hotchkiss Avenue:
An officer responded to the report of vehicle tampering. The victim reported someone broke the window to their vehicle sometime between 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm. The suspect went through the vehicle but did not steal anything.

Vehicle Tampering – 7300 block of Hotchkiss Avenue:
While at the above call the officer noticed another vehicle that had the window broken. The victim reported nothing had been stolen from inside the vehicle.

Warrant Arrest – Potrero Avenue at S. 53rd Street:
At 12:52 am an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and found the subject had two no bail Felony warrants for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Possession of a Controlled Substance – 1000 block of Everett Street:
At 3:30 am an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle. One of the occupants of the vehicle was on probation and the driver was unlicensed. During a search both occupants were found to be in possession of Methamphetamine.

November 2nd
Shoplifting – 11861 San Pablo Ave (Starbucks):
At 8:06 am, an officer reports the citizen’s arrest of a 49-year-old woman for shoplifting from the business. The woman was issued a citation and released at the scene.

Attempted Theft – Alta Punta Ave / Cedar St:
At 8:46 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle sometime during the evening and rummaged through the interior; no loss was reported.

Theft from Auto – 2300 block of Cedar St:
At 12:57 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and removed $30 worth of clothing sometime during the evening.

Vandalism – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 1:01 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke the rear window to the victim’s vehicle sometime over the past few weeks.

Auto Burglary – 1600 block of Kearney St:
At 1:36 pm, an officer reports two unknown suspects forced open the victim’s work truck and took tools.

Identity Theft – 1700 block of Liberty St:
At 1:53 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect used the victim’s personal identifying information to obtain cell phone services.

Grand Theft – 500 block of Liberty Street:
At 3:48 am officers were dispatched to the report that someone was stealing a catalytic converter off of a Toyota Prius parked in a car port. Officers arrived on scene and saw the suspect, a 39-year-old male, running across the street holding a catalytic converter and a power saw in his hands. The suspect was found to be in possession of Methamphetamine. He was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

November 3rd:

Commercial Burglary – 900 block of Avis Dr:
At 4:10 am, officers responded to an alarm at a school. Officers arrived on scene and found a bench propped against a room and a window which was forced open. Officers obtained keys for the room. Officers then located a 39-year-old male in the room. The male was taken into custody without incident. A search of the room revealed several cabinets and doors were rummaged through. The male was booked then transported to county jail.

November 4th

Vehicle Theft- Fairmount Avenue @ Pomona Avenue:
At 7:14am, an officer responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle and located a Ford F-150 which was reported stolen to the Berkeley Police
Department.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 500 block of 33rd St:
At 4:40 am, an officer located a stolen refrigerator van which was reported stolen to San Pablo Police on 11/4/20.

Possession of a Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave and Ohio St:
At 2:49 am, an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. During the contact the driver, a 42-year-old female, could not explain who the vehicle belonged to. She was also on probation for possession of a stolen vehicle. Due to the driver not having a license the vehicle was towed. The next day the owner of the vehicle reported their vehicle as stolen to the Richmond Police Department. A criminal case will be authored against the vehicle.

November 5th

Grand Theft- 1800 block of Arlington Boulevard:
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole a catalytic converter from a Prius sometime between the 3rd and the 5th.

Burglary- 400 block of Richmond Street:
An unknown suspect broke into the victim’s truck during the night of the 5th and stole a backpack.

Burglary- 400 block of Clayton Avenue:
An unknown suspect broke into the residence sometime during the last two weeks and stole electronics.

Vandalism- 7550 Schmidt Lane;
An unknown suspect shattered a window on one of the roll-up doors to the corporation yard. It is unknown when the vandalism occurred.

Vehicle Tampering, Grand Theft, Possession of Burglary Tools, Driving Unlicensed – 2200 block of Pinehurst Ave:
At 11:11 pm, officers responded to someone attempting to steal a catalytic converter. The reporting party then saw suspects get into a vehicle and leave the area. An officer arrived and located the vehicle and contacted the driver, a 54-year-old male. Upon approaching the vehicle two saws and a floor jack could be seen in plain view. The reporting party identified the vehicle as the suspect vehicle and the driver was taken into custody. The other suspect was not located. The male was booked and then released on a citation.
