Mayor's COVID-19 Response Update
An Announcement from the Office of the Mayor
Coronavirus COVID-19 Response Local Update
November 10, 2020
Our Haledon Community:
As of this writing, there have been 388 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Borough of Haledon. With the spike in COVID-19 cases, we must continue to wear our masks, practice social distancing, and wash our hands frequently. Thus far, we have lost 14 Haledon residents due to complications of COVID-19, which has been confirmed by the Passaic County Health Department. I extend my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this pandemic. I would also like to bring the following to your attention:
The Walgreens located at 441 Belmont Avenue is offering no-cost, contactless COVID-19 rapid drive-thru testing in partnership with the PWNHealth provider network. Testing is available at no cost between 9AM and 5PM. During testing, patients must remain in their vehicle with the window rolled up and follow instructions from the staff. A Walgreens pharmacist will instruct patients on the self-administration of the COVID-19 test using a nasal swab. Patients will be contacted by PWNHealth via phone call and regular mail only once their results are available. The test being administered at this site is the Rapid Point-of-Care (POC) with results available within 24 hours. Rapid Point-of-Care (POC) Test is an antigen test that detects the presence of a specific viral antigen, with results available the same day. These tests imply current viral infection and help determine if an individual is actively infected with COVID-19 and can spread it to others. Based on CDC guidance, you should get tested if you develop symptoms of COVID-19 within 14 days of having close contact with that person or if that person later tests positive for COVID-19. Close contact includes being within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period, starting from 2 days before illness onset until the time the infected person is isolated;
As per the Governor, effective Thursday, November 12, 2020, all restaurants, bars, clubs, and lounges that serve food and drink must close their indoor premises for business by 10PM each day and cannot open until at least 5AM the following day. Outdoor dining, takeout, and delivery services may continue past 10 pm.
In cooperation with the State of New York, New Jersey launched a contact tracing app called "COVID Alert NJ". This app, which keeps users' identities anonymous, are based on a new technology developed by Google and Apple. They use Bluetooth to connect to nearby phones and alert users if they've been in close contact with someone who has been infected with the coronavirus. If you end up testing positive for COVID-19, a public health representative will call and ask if you'd be willing to share the app's list of random codes to help protect other people. “Sharing your list is secure and private," according to the app descriptions. "The app never reveals who you are to anyone." You also have the option to keep track of your own symptoms on the apps. The app will only work effectively if enough people download and use it;
