Manhattan Beach Holiday Celebrations Modified to Ensure Community Safety - Press Release:

Manhattan Beach Holiday Celebrations Modified to Ensure Community Safety

Manhattan Beach, CA (November 10, 2020) – As coronavirus cases surge throughout the County, the City has modified traditional holiday celebrations in Manhattan Beach to ensure the health and safety of the community continues to remain a priority. The City had modified the following events:

Veterans Day Celebration - On Wednesday, November 11 at 11am, the City will honor and thank veterans through a pre-recorded ceremony during the 23rd Annual Veterans Day Ceremony . The ceremony can be viewed on local community cable channels 8 (Spectrum) and 35 (Frontier), streamed via the City's MBtv webcast, and viewed on Facebook and YouTube. For more information visit citymb.info.

31st Annual Pier Lighting & Holiday Fireworks - In accordance with gathering restrictions from the current County Health Officer Order, the annual Pier Lighting and Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks events will not be held for 2020.

26th Annual Holiday Open House - The Annual Holiday Open House will look different this year, as there will be no street closures, reindeer, caroling or entertainment. However, to encourage residents to shop and dine locally, November 14 and 15 from 10am to 6pm, downtown businesses will feature activities to kick off the holiday season. Festivities include a scavenger hunt with prizes, holiday music throughout Downtown and drive-by greetings from Santa from noon to 2pm. In addition, residents will have the opportunity to virtually select the best decorated holiday windows and dining decks. Los Angeles Public Health Order Protocols will be maintained throughout the weekend. For more information, visit www.downtownmanhattaanbeach.com

“While the City wishes we could celebrate the holidays in our special Manhattan Beach way, the City’s modified celebrations will allow us to continue our traditions in a safe manner,” said Mayor Richard Montgomery. “I encourage our community to keep showing their ‘Local Love’ by supporting our local businesses during this time. These events serve as an important revenue generator for many small businesses and we need to band together as a community to support them.”

The State and County Public Health Departments advise individuals to limit gatherings, and to take precautions if attending such gatherings. Recently, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported that gatherings were the number one cause of the spread of COVID-19.

As of November 10, 2020, the City of Manhattan Beach, along with the entire Los Angeles County, remains in Tier One, with "widespread" risk and the most restrictions. It is the community’s shared responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19. By adhering to social distancing, wearing face coverings, hand washing, and avoiding crowds, confined spaces and close contact, we can collectively limit the spread of coronavirus cases.
