SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARRESTS FOR POSSESSION OF BURGLARY TOOLS AND NARCOTICS
On Thursday, November 12, 2020, at approximately 2:33 AM, Sausalito Police Sergeant Steve Veveiros was on routine patrol and located a suspicious vehicle parked in the area of Stanford Way and Olima Street. The vehicle was a 2003 Volvo hatchback that had three people sleeping inside it. Upon closer inspection, it was determined that the Volvo’s registration had expired in January 2020.
As Sergeant Veveiros approached the Volvo, he observed tools commonly used to commit automobile burglaries and steal catalytic converters in plain sight through the back window of the Volvo. Inside the vehicle, Officers contacted Mariano Rincon-Saavedra (37-year-old resident of San Rafael), Mario Arvizu (29-year-old resident of San Rafael), and Juliana Diaz-Rivera (21-year-old resident of Novato).
Through further investigation, Officers were able to determine that Rincon-Saavedra was responsible for the burglary tools located in the Volvo. Arvizu and Diaz-Rivera were found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and narcotics paraphernalia.
Rincon-Saavedra was arrested for possession of burglary tools. Arvizu and Diaz-Rivera were arrested for possession methamphetamine and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. All subjects were issued citations for their misdemeanor crimes and were released from the scene pending criminal charges.
The Volvo was impounded for having expired registration in excess of six (6) months.
