Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of November 2-8, 2020
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Tuesday, 11-03-20 between 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., an unknown suspect stole two French bulldogs from the backyard of a residence on the 100 block of East Vista Avenue.
On Wednesday, 11-04-20 at 3:37 a.m., Officer Graner was on patrol in the parking lot of the Westlake Shopping Center near Starbucks and saw a subject standing in front of a garbage receptacle. When Officer Graner made eye contact with the subject, he said the subject hid behind a large concrete pillar. Officer Graner contacted the male and said he was exhibiting erratic behavior and making non-sensical speech. A Starbuck’s employee exited the store and told the officer that the subject had urinated in front of the store and was disturbing customers. The subject initially gave the officer a false name. Suspecting that the subject was under the influence of a controlled substance, the officer conducted some tests to determine if he was under the influence. The subject failed the tests. Officer Graner checked the area where the subject was initially standing and found two envelopes addressed to someone on Northgate Avenue. Officer Premenko responded to the address on Northgate Avenue and found a mailbox that was burglarized. Officer Graner placed the 57-year old transient subject under arrest for being under the influence of a controlled substance, providing a false name to a police officer, and mail theft.
On Wednesday, 11-04-20 at approximately 4:11 p.m., Officer Haas was dispatched to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at John Daly Boulevard near the Park Plaza Drive bus stop. The dispatchers advised the suspect was hitting the victim over the head with a crowbar. The victim, a 48-year old San Francisco resident, had suffered a large laceration on the back of his head, a skull fracture, and possibly a serious brain bleed. The victim was transported to the hospital. A witness saw the suspect run into a residence on Bel Mar Avenue. Officers went to the residence and subsequently took the subject, a 28-year old Daly City resident, into custody for attempted homicide.
On Thursday, 11-05-20 at approximately 3:06 a.m., Officer Premenko and other officers were dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Westline Drive on a report of a brandishing of a firearm. The officers conducted a protective sweep of the residence and found a Sears & Roebuck .22 caliber bolt action rifle in plain view. After a brief investigation, they placed a 55-year old resident under arrest for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). They also placed a 23-year old Oakland resident under arrest for brandishing.
On Friday, 11-06-20 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Officer Shiu and Officer Arguelles were dispatched to the Marchbanks Park playground on a report of two male juveniles actively involved in a fist fight. The dispatcher advised one of the males was in possession of a knife. The officers contacted a 14-year old male who had a blood stain with a small hole on the bottom of his white tee-shirt. The officers asked the subject if he was injured, and he said he was not. Officer Shiu pointed out the blood stain to the victim and lifted up his shirt to find a puncture wound the size of a dime on the victim’s abdomen. Officer Shiu talked to a female juvenile who was standing behind the victim, and she said she witness a fight between the victim and another boy she knew from school. She said after they fought, the subject walked away with his German Shepherd, and she shared photos she took from her cellphone with the officers. Other officers canvassed the neighborhood and found the subject with his dog at a residence on the 600 block of San Diego Avenue. The subject was the same one in the photo. The 14-year old subject was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into the Youth Services Center.

Nextdoor.com
Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
