El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter November 6th - November 12th, 2020
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
November 6th
Identity Theft – 7900 block of Potrero Ave:
At 8:58 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect opened a fraudulent bank account using the victim’s personal identifying information.
Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 4:31 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business and selected several items of merchandise before leaving the store without payment.
Stolen Vehicle, Traffic Pursuit:
At 10:39 PM, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle fleeing from a robbery alarm in a neighboring jurisdiction. The vehicle fled on Central Ave. into Point Isabel park. The driver of the vehicle collided with a police car and then into a fence in the park and fled on foot into the park. The vehicle was previously reported as stolen.
November 7th
DUI – San Pablo Avenue / Moeser Lane:
At 02:47 AM, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle over for speeding and reckless driving. The vehicle finally was stopped approx. a half mile later and the officer determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Bed, Bath and Beyond):
At 10:11 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business and walked out with merchandise.
DUI – San Pablo Avenue / El Dorado Street:
At 10:11 PM, an officer observed a vehicle doing a burn out and then nearly colliding with parked cars. The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver refused to submit to a blood alcohol test, so the arresting officer obtained a search warrant. The driver was booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Grand Theft – 900 block of Norvell Street:
At 10:42 PM, an officer responded to the report of a catalytic convertor theft. An unknown suspect stole the catalytic convertor off of the vehicle that was parked on the street between 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
Stolen Vehicle / Traffic Pursuit:
At 11:41 PM, an officer ran the license plate of a stolen vehicle. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the suspect fled in a reckless manner. In the interest of public safety, the pursuit was cancelled.
November 8th
Auto Burglary – 6500 block of Morris Ave:
At 7:36 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke a window to the victim’s vehicle and stole property sometime during the evening.
November 9th
Robbery – Ohlone Greenway / South of Fairmount Ave:
At 9:25 AM, officers responded to the report of a robbery. A suspect approached the victim and wrenched a cellular telephone from a victim’s hand after a struggle. The suspect ran to an awaiting vehicle was determined to be a vehicle stolen in a carjacking reported to another agency.
Robbery / Elder Abuse - 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joe’s parking lot):
Directly after the previous robbery, the suspect accosted a 73-year-old female loading groceries into her vehicle and shoved her to the ground. The suspect stole her purse and cell phone and fled to an awaiting vehicle. While fleeing the scene, the suspect driving the vehicle collided with another vehicle on Central Ave.
Grand Theft from a Person / Elder Abuse – Walgreen’s 11565 San Pablo Ave:
At 8:18 pm, officers responded to the report of a suspect grabbing the cell phone from the hands of a 67-year-old male victim and then fleeing on foot.
November 10th
Stolen vehicle – 900 block of Lexington Ave:
At 6:54 AM, an officer responded to the report of an auto theft. The suspect stole the victim’s truck sometime during the previous night.
November 11th
Warrant Arrest – Moeser Lane and Ohlone Greenway:
At 11:38 pm, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and subsequently arrested a 23 year old male from Richmond. The male was wanted on several outstanding warrants. The male was booked and then transported to county jail.
Grand Theft – 7100 block of Cutting Boulevard:
An unknown suspect entered a residence under construction and stole several thousand dollars in tools during the night of the 10th.
Grand Theft – 11820 San Pablo Avenue:
At 7:19 am, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Honda Accord.
November 12th
Grand Theft update – Key Blvd. / McLaughlin Ave:
At 1:56 am, an officer located the responsible suspect from the grand theft on Cutting Blvd. the day prior. The officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 41-year-old male from Richmond. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Warrant Arrest – Key Blvd. / McLaughlin Ave:
During the above arrest, the officer found a female passenger in the vehicle had an outstanding warrant. The 20-year-old transient woman was arrested and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. Following booking, she was cited and released.
