Updated Health Order Affects Indoor Dining, Fitness
In an attempt to stop the rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Bay Area Health Officers are tightening local restrictions on high risk indoor activities. The updated order, which takes affect on Tuesday November 17, 2020, will affect indoor dining, indoor fitness centers, and concession stands at movie theatres.
On Thursday, California crossed the milestone of one million COVID cases statewide, and with increases seen in transmission and hospitalizations, officials decided to take more stringent measures in order to once again flatten the curve.
County Health officer Chris Farnitano stated that restricting those activities is prudent as we continue to work towards slowing and stopping the spread of infection.
"Indoor interactions at restaurants, movie theaters, and indoor gyms and fitness centers are high-risk activities," said Farnitano. "And given what we're seeing happen across the country and the region, we must act now."
Danville officials are asking residents to continue to exercise good social distancing, wear facial coverings, and avoid gatherings with individuals outside your household.
“We once again ask our residents to abide by these rules,” said Town Manager Joe Calabrigo. “We know this will be a hardship on our local businesses and we encourage everyone to continue to support those businesses. Outdoor dining, takeout, delivery, and curbside pickup all remain options, and these are vital in helping keep these businesses afloat.”
Currently, Contra Costa County is in the red tier of the State of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. If case counts continue to rise, the county could fall back to the purple tier, which could affect the planned reopening of schools in the county.
Following the health order will be very important as the holiday season approaches. Gatherings should be limited to family members. Holiday travel is not recommended, and for anyone doing so, it is strongly encouraged that those individuals voluntarily quarantine for 14 days after returning.

- Wear a mask or face covering in public
- Wash your hands regularly
- Keep at least six feet of physical distance in public
- Limit or avoid mixing with people you don’t live with
