Narrative: |
Deputies received a report of a suspicious vehicle in a business parking lot in 400 block of Ventura Boulevard. The two occupants of the suspicious vehicle were located and were determined to be conspiring together to commits thefts at local businesses. Kevin Farris and Cody Brown were subsequently arrested for numerous charges including conspiracy, theft, possession of illegal drugs, and local warrants.
On November 13, 2020 at about 1:25 PM, Camarillo Patrol Deputies responded to a call for service regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot of a business located in the 400 block of Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo. Patrol deputies and the Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit arrived on scene and located the vehicle, which was unoccupied. Deputies confirmed the registered owner of the vehicle, Keven Farris, had four Ventura County misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. The warrants were for failing to appear in court and violations of probation.
Deputies searched the area and located Farris inside the business establishment where his vehicle was parked and was he arrested for the warrants. While speaking with Farris, deputies determined he was in the business with another male subject identified as Cody Brown. Deputies located Brown and observed him discarding property throughout the isles of the business. Brown was detained as he attempted to flee through a rear exit.
An investigation of Brown’s activity’s confirmed he was in possession of stolen property from another local business and was trying to discard this stolen property. It was confirmed that Brown also had four Ventura County misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. Additional evidence obtained at the scene, including statements from several witnesses and reviews of security camera footage, indicated Brown and Farris conspired to commit crimes and arrived in the 400 block of Ventura Boulevard for the sole purpose of stealing from local Camarillo businesses. Due to the fact Farris is on Ventura County Probation for theft, deputies search his vehicle. During the search, they located an amount of methamphetamine, paraphernalia used to ingest illegal drugs, and additional stolen property.
At the conclusion of this investigation, Farris and Brown were arrested for PC 496 / Possession of Stolen Property, PC 182(a)(1) / Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, PC 459.5 / Shoplifting, and their numerous warrants. Farris was additionally charged with HS 11377(a) / Possession of a Controlled Substance and HS 11364 (a) / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Farris and Brown were booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with pending court dates.
