The Moraga-Orinda Fire District will be conducting a controlled burn (prescribed fire project) on the John Muir Land Trust’s Painted Rock property (Fay Hill) tomorrow, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  This is near the intersection of Rheem Blvd. and Moraga Road. 

This project is a continuation of the wildfire management work that was done in the area in the Spring of 2020 and Fall of 2019 and is designed to increase community safety by reducing vegetation type fuels in the area, thus encouraging the growth of native plants and wildflowers in the spring.  The project will conclude by 5:00 p.m.  Residents should be aware of the following: 

• There will be smoke in the area - residents in the surrounding neighborhoods should keep windows closed.
• There will be traffic congestion in the area due to fire equipment and drivers slowing to look.  Please drive safely and slowly.
• Substantial safety precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of the surrounding community during the exercise.  If weather conditions are unfavorable, the project will be postponed.
