Contra Costa County Moves Back to Purple Tier

Town of Danville Update:  11.16.20

Contra Costa County Returns to Purple Tier

In response to the continuing surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the State of California, Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday moved several counties (including Contra Costa County) back to the purple (most restrictive) tier on the State of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

The adjusted daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Contra Costa County has doubled in recent weeks, going from 4.3 per 100,000 population on Oct. 16 to 9.2 on Nov. 16, 2020.  In Danville case count is 43 per 100,000 population, a 38% increase since last week.

In addition to those restrictions announced last week, the move to the purple tier also includes:

  • Social gatherings involving people from different households are permitted outdoors only, with a maximum of three households and 25 people, preferably for less than two hours.
  • K-12 schools may not reopen for in-person instruction unless they have already begun to do so.
  • Worship services and cultural ceremonies must now be held outdoors only.
  • Higher education institutions must move indoor lectures and student gatherings outdoors only.
  • Movie theaters may operate outdoors only.
  • Museums and exhibit spaces may open outdoors only.

For Danville, front counters at the Danville Community Center, Danville Senior Center and the Village Theatre Art Gallery will no longer be open to the public.  When the Town progresses to the next tier, those facilities can reopen to the public.

Following the health order will be very important as the holiday season approaches. Gatherings should be limited to family members. Holiday travel is not recommended, and for anyone doing so, it is strongly encouraged that those individuals voluntarily quarantine for 14 days after returning.

What can I do to help my county move forward to the next tier?

  • Wear a mask or face covering in public
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Keep at least six feet of physical distance in public
  • Limit or avoid mixing with people you don’t live with
