Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of November 9-15, 2020
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Monday, 11-09-20 at approximately 5:07 p.m., Officer Fulmore and Officer Ortiz were dispatched to the unit block of Mar Vista Drive on a report of a black sedan occupied by two subjects who were playing loud music while parked in a red zone. They contacted two subjects in the vehicle, which ultimately resulted in an arrest of one suspect, a 19-year old San Francisco resident, for possession of an unregistered loaded firearm inside of a vehicle, a concealed firearm inside of a vehicle, misappropriation of lost property, and threatening a police officer. The other suspect, a 30-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of an unregistered loaded firearm inside of a vehicle, a concealed firearm inside of a vehicle by an occupant, delaying a police officer, and for a felony warrant from Antioch P.D. for negligent discharge of a firearm.
On Tuesday, 11-10-20 at approximately 9:59 a.m., two male victims in their 30’s were the victims of assault with a deadly weapon (floor scraper) by a 56-year old Daly City resident who was upset that that repairs to the home were taking too long. This occurred while the victims were seated in a truck in the driveway of a residence on the 200 block of Hillside Boulevard. The suspect left the scene, but officers arrested him in Pacifica the following day.
On Tuesday, 11-10-20 at 4:01 p.m., several officers were dispatched to a report of a strong-arm robbery that occurred at the Sephora store. The Loss Prevention Officer saw a female subject select items and conceal them in her purse. The Loss Prevention Officer confronted the subject outside the store and told her to come back in with him. The subject refused, and the Loss Prevention Officer grabbed her purse, and they started tugging it back and forth. The Loss Prevention Officer told the subject to let go of the purse because the store products were in there, and the officer said the female replied “no” and swung at him with a closed fist and hit him. The officer called the police and said he was following the subject in the parking lot as she dropped items on the ground. Officer Martin and Officer Dhaliwal detained the subject, a 28-year old Vallejo resident, and subsequently arrested her for robbery and four outstanding warrants.
On Tuesday, 11-10-20 at 8:04 p.m., Officer Moody was on patrol in the Westlake Shopping Center parking lot and saw a subject walking through the parking lot. The officer noticed the subject had large bulges in the legs of his sweatpants, and he heard an audible beeping alarm sounding from the subject. Officer Moody contacted the subject who allowed the officer to search him. Officer Moody found two pairs of shoes with tags and sensors from the Ross store in the subject’s sweatpants, and three pairs of socks and 23 white pills, later identified as “Alprazolam”, in the subject’s jacket pocket. Officer Moody found six unopened cases of Red Bull in the subject’s backpack. The subject had no receipts for the items and no prescription for the pills. Officer Moody issued a citation to the subject, a 31-year old Berkeley resident, for possession of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property.
On Thursday, 11-12-20 at 2:41 p.m., officers were dispatched to the parking lot of Serramonte Shopping Center near Dick’s Sporting Goods on a report of a just occurred stolen vehicle. The reporting party said he was walking back to his 1992 Honda Prelude when he saw it “take off”. Several officers canvassed the surrounding area, and Officer Martin stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Washington Street and Junipero Serra Boulevard. The officer ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, and the driver got out and laid on the ground. Another officer got into the Prelude, which was rolling backwards, and activated the emergency brake. The officer pulled the key out of the ignition and saw it was an Acura key with ground down ridges—most likely a “shaved key”. The owner of the vehicle confirmed this key did not belong to him. Prior to the officers contacting the driver, the driver had struck three vehicles, causing minor damage to each of them. Officers arrested the 31-year old transient driver for possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, felony evading and was placed on a probation hold.
On Thursday, 11-12-20 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Officer Fulmore was dispatched on a report of a just-occurred brandishing that occurred at the southeast exit of the Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot. The victims started to follow the suspect vehicle and stood by at the corner of Clarinada Avenue and Callan Boulevard to make a report. One of the victims, a 40-year old San Francisco resident, said he and his girlfriend were in their Jeep heading to Target to pick up items at the curbside pick-up section. He said as they were pulling up, there was a black Buick Encore with Virginia license plates blocking the lane, causing a traffic delay. The victim pulled into a stall assigned to the curbside pick-up, and he met with a Target employee to load his items into his trunk. The victim could hear other vehicles honking at the Buick to move. Once their vehicle was loaded, they reversed out of the parking stall and passed by the Buick. The victim said the driver of the Buick threw up his arms and appeared to be extremely upset. The victim saw the male’s gesture, and he also threw up his arms in retaliation. The victim said they were exiting the parking lot and saw the Buick following closely behind them. The victim said as they came to a stop sign, the male in the Buick rolled down his window, said, “What’s up bro?” and pointed a metallic black or gray firearm at him. The victim tried to follow the suspect onto the freeway, gave the dispatcher a description of the vehicle and the license plate, but lost sight of him. This case is under investigation.
On Sunday, 11-15-20 at 4:37 a.m., Officer Mendiara was on patrol in the vicinity of the Daly City BART station and saw an Acura with the front driver’s side door and trunk open on the first floor of the parking garage. Officer Mendiara could not see anyone around the vehicle, so he drove into the garage to investigate. While approaching the vehicle, the officer saw a subject sitting on the front driver’s seat. As he pulled his patrol vehicle closer, Officer Mendiara said the subject exited the vehicle and began to walk towards the BART station, leaving the door and drunk open. Officer Mendiara talked to the subject who said the vehicle belonged to his neighbor from San Francisco, and his neighbor gave him permission to be inside the vehicle. Officer Mendiara called the registered owner of the vehicle, and the owner said she parked her vehicle in the BART parking garage and left town. Officer Mendiara placed the subject, a 31-year old Union City resident, under arrest for burglary. The officer searched the subject and found the victim’s cellphone charger and vehicle registration in the subject’s possession.
On Sunday, 11-15-20 at 7:05 p.m., Officer Abuan and Officer Sunga were dispatched to a report of a white Dodge Charger hitting a curb and a trash can in the area of Mission Street and Theta Avenue. Officer Premenko was the first to arrive to the 6500 block of Mission Street and saw a female attempting to get inside the vehicle. After seeing the female had trouble walking, Officer Premenko asked the female to sit on a nearby chair. Officer Abuan arrived asked the female if she would be willing to take a Field Sobriety test, and she refused. The female exhibited signs of being under the influence of alcohol and stumbled as she walked. Officer Abuan placed the female, a 34-year old San Francisco resident, under arrest for driving under the influence.

This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
