El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter Nov. 13th - 19th, 2020

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

November 13th:

Grand Theft – 2600 block of Tulare Ave:
At 1:39 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the evening.

Robbery – Bart Path / Cutting Blvd:
At 8:34 pm, an officer was dispatched for the report of a Robbery that had occurred earlier in the evening. The victim reported that as he was walking he was approached by three suspects who started punching him and took property from his pocket and ran away.

November 14th:
Grand Theft – 2000 block of Key Blvd:
At 10:03 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the evening.

November 15th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle, Warrant Arrest – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 7:44 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 63-year-old man found in possession of a vehicle which had been reported stolen to the Vallejo Police Department. The man also had outstanding warrants for his arrest and was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 5:04 pm, an officer reports a group of unknown suspects entered the business and concealed numerous items of merchandise before running out the door. The officer arrived and located one of the suspects still inside the store. The officer placed the 19-year-old man under Citizen’s Arrest and later released him on a citation.

Vehicle Pursuit / Assault on a Police Officer / Stolen vehicle – Richmond Street near Moeser Lane:
At 4:21 am, officers responded to the report of a vehicle driving down the street with its headlights off and the occupants using a flashlight to look into vehicles. An officer located a vehicle driving in the area that had been reported stolen to the Oakland Police Department. A traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle refused to pull over and a vehicle pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the suspect purposefully rammed a police car, resulting in a minor injury to an officer. Officers lost sight of the vehicle briefly but found it nearby unoccupied. An El Cerrito PD K9 was deployed and it tracked the suspects a significant distance however the suspects were not located.

November 16th
Grand Theft – 400 block of Albemarle:
At 10:40 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the evening. The officer also determined that the catalytic converter from the neighbor’s vehicle had also been stolen.

November 17th:

Residential Burglary - 5300 block of School Street:
At 10:51 am, three unknown suspects cut the lock to a garage and stole property.

November 18th:

Warrant Arrest:
An officer responded to the San Mateo County Jail to pick up a prisoner who was wanted on an El Cerrito Police Department warrant. A Detective obtained the warrant in May after evidence collected at the scene connected him to the burglary and the suspect had been at large since then. The subject was booked into the Contra Costa County Jail. The Contra Costa County District Attorney subsequently filed burglary charges on the subject.

November 19th:

Carjacking – Elder Abuse: San Pablo Avenue @ Madison Avenue-
At 1:08 pm, two suspects attacked a 77 year-old victim with a knife while he was sitting inside of his vehicle eating lunch. The victim suffered minor injuries. One of the suspects stole the victim’s vehicle while the other fled in another vehicle. Early the next morning, an Alameda County law enforcement agency located the vehicle and was involved in a pursuit and two subjects were arrested. ECPD Detectives responded to conduct interviews, serve search warrants, collect evidence and process the victim’s vehicle and the suspects for evidence.
