INCIDENT: PC 182(a)-Conspiracy, PC 664/487(a)-Attempted Grand Theft

LOCATION: 29200 block of Greenbrier Place Highland

SUSPECT(S): Israel Valle Contreras, 34 years of age, Transient San Bernardino

VICTIM(S): A resident of Highland


SUMMARY: On November 7, 2020, Israel Contreras, and another unidentified suspect, raised the victim's vehicle with a floor jack. Contreras and the other suspect attempted to remove the victim's catalytic converter from the vehicle with a power tool. A witness saw the suspects and recognized they were stealing a catalytic converter. The witness called Sheriff's Dispatch and notified them of the crime in progress. Contreras observed the witness and fled the scene in a green Ford Expedition. Deputies were unable to locate Contreras and the other unidentified suspect.

Through investigative leads, Highland Station Deputies identified Contreras as the suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Contreras. On November 21, 2020, Contreras was arrested for his outstanding warrant. A search warrant was authored on Contreras' green Ford Expedition. The search yielded two reciprocating saws, numerous saw blades and stolen vehicle components.
