Sun Prairie Police can confirm that one of the two pedestrians was an off-duty Madison Police Officer. The spouse of the off-duty Madison Police Officer was the other pedestrian and she died at the scene. Currently, the investigation indicates both the off-duty Madison Police Officer and her wife were walking on the bike path well off the roadway of E. Main Street when they were struck by one of the two vehicles involved in the traffic crash.

James Blackstone, Sun Prairie, DOB 01/23/1988, one of the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the crash, was arrested for misdemeanor bail jumping. This crash continues to be investigated and more information will be released when appropriate.

Subject: Motor Vehicle Accident and Fatality

On Monday November 23, 2020 at approximately 3:35pm, the Sun Prairie Police Department, along with Sun Prairie EMS and Sun Prairie Fire Department, were dispatched to E. Main St. at the intersection of Whitetail Drive for a two vehicle accident also involving two pedestrians.

Two people were transported to area hospitals for their injuries and one person was pronounced dead at the scene. As this accident causing fatality is currently under police investigation, no information regarding the identity of the deceased nor their role or the role of the two people who were transported to the hospital will be released until proper notification of family and until the investigation is complete. More information will be released as it becomes available and is able to be released.

Dane County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted at the accident scene.
