Wishing You and Your Loved Ones a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
According to the National Fire Protection Association, Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment.
The Fremont Fire Department would like to help ensure that you and your loved ones enjoy a safe holiday.
Please consider reviewing these holiday fire safety tips to keep you and your family safe:
1. Stay in the home when cooking your turkey and check on it often. Stay in the kitchen when you’re cooking on the stovetop so you can track the progress of your meal preparation.
2. If you’re roasting, baking, or simmering food, check it regularly. Remain in the home while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
3. Never leave children unattended in the kitchen and keep them away from knives and hot surfaces.
4. Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children --- up high in a locked cabinet.
5. Make sure your smoke alarms are connected and working. Test them by pushing the test button.
6. Be sure items like electric cords from electric knives, coffee makers, plate warmers, air fryers and mixers are not dangling off the counter within easy reach of a child or pet.
7. After your meal, walk through the kitchen and throughout the home to ensure candles and fireplaces are extinguished, and appliances have been turned off.
