**2nd UPDATE** #LASD Homicide Detectives Investigate the Death of Male Adult, Compton
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Compton.
Investigators have learned that a male adult driver (the victim) was stopped at a red light in his vehicle on Compton Boulevard at Santa Fe Avenue in the city of Compton on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at approximately 8:39 PM. The suspect walked up to the victim while he was seated in his vehicle and brandished a handgun. The victim was armed and shot the suspect. The victim then drove a short distance away for safety, and awaited the arrival of Sheriff’s deputies.
The suspect, male Hispanic adult, was then struck by at least one vehicle traveling westbound through the intersection. The driver of that vehicle, a black sedan, pulled over briefly before fleeing the scene. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim, and sole occupant of the vehicle, has been cooperating with detectives as the investigation continues. He has been interviewed and is not in custody. When complete, this investigation will be delivered to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review and filing consideration.
The suspect's identity and cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
There were multiple cars on the road, along with pedestrians in the area, at the time of this incident. Investigators believe there were multiple witnesses to this shooting and subsequent traffic collision, that have not come forward.

1ST UPDATE IS AS FOLLOWS:
Sheriffs Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Compton.
On Sunday, November 29, 2020, at 8:39 PM, deputies from Compton Station responded to the intersection of Compton Boulevard and Santa Fe Avenue regarding a call of gunshots. Within seconds, the call was updated to indicate a gunshot victim was down in the intersection. Arriving deputies discovered a Black male adult lying in the intersection.
The male sustained at least one gunshot wound and appeared to have been struck by at least one vehicle that fled the scene. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators learned the male, who was reportedly armed with a handgun, had attempted to carjack a motorist stopped for a red light at the intersection. A shooting occurred and the male was struck by gunfire. At this time it is unknown if the male’s death was a result of gunfire or being struck by a vehicle.
The motorist awaited responding deputies after the shooting occurred and will be interviewed by investigators.
This investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.
