License Plate Recognition Camera Hit Results in Arrest for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
On Thursday, December 3, 2020, at approximately 11:08 AM, the Sausalito Police Department received an alert from our License Plate Recognition Cameras of a stolen 2015 grey Range Rover SUV exiting the Sausalito city limits from Rodeo and Northbound 101 onramp. The Range Rover had been reported stolen out of San Francisco on December 2, 2020.
Sausalito Police Officers immediately responded and conducted a comprehensive search of the area. Officer Ryan Walsh located the Range Rover in the dirt lot at the top of Rodeo Avenue. The vehicle was parked with a male subject, Antonio Terrell (57-year-old resident of Oakland), sitting in the driver’s seat with the driver’s side door open. Terrell was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle and was ultimately arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for possession of the stolen vehicle.
Since the City of Sausalito’s License Plate Recognition Camera program became operational on Thursday, May 18, 2017, forty-eight (48) stolen vehicles have been recovered leading to the arrest of fifty-five (55) individuals for various crimes. The goal of the License Plate Recognition Camera program is to increase public safety by utilizing technology to alert law enforcement to wanted vehicles, enhance post-crime investigative abilities, and deter crime by increasing the likelihood of suspect identification.
