The Sleepy Eye Police Department has received numerous calls about scams in the area. Please be aware that there are elevated scam calls right now. Any call that states your Social Security number/card has been compromised is a scam. Any call claiming to be from the FBI, CIA, IRS, or the Sleepy Eye Police Department stating you have a warrant or are a suspect of a major crime in another state is a scam call. Any requests to make payments to resolve a situation through the use of gift cards of any kind is a scam. Scammers are well versed in getting money out of innocent people and often sound legitimate, they sound convincing and may have small amounts of personal information to help convince you that the scam is real.  Please do not give these callers any information or money. Scammers are able to emulate phone numbers meaning that the number they are calling from is not the real number they are using. We have had scam calls looking like they are coming from Sleepy Eye phone numbers.
