"Stop the Steal" Protest 12/06/2020

On December 6, 2020, at 1:45 p.m., approximately 300 protestors arrived at Bittersweet Lane.  The “Stop the Steal” protestors stayed in that area until approximately 3:00 p.m.  They then traveled to Old House Lane, where they protested until approximately 4:30 p.m.

The loud but peaceful protestors were managed with the assistance of the New York State Police and the United States Secret Service using standard operating procedures.

The New Castle Police Department is committed to the peaceful expression of First Amendment rights.  Our role in protests and demonstrations must be to keep the peace and facilitate the ability of protesters to demonstrate without infringing on their First Amendment rights.

We realize our community had concerns about parking and face mask violations yesterday.  During protests and demonstrations, enforcement of low-level offenses or imposing unnecessary constraints on the protestors can spark avoidable conflict.  If at any time there is a severe threat to public order or imminent risk of violence, the assembly will be dispersed.

The New Castle Police, just like most other municipalities in Westchester have been dealing with demonstrations and protests for months.  When dealing with an event like yesterday, all Westchester County Police Departments are in contact, coordinating, and ready to respond with mutual aid if necessary.  We are here to support and respect the rights of everyone and will take every measure to ensure the safety of our community.
