COMMUNITY NOTIFICATION - BEWARE - WTPD PHONE SCAM
WTPD has received multiple calls with regards to our station phone number being "spoofed". WTPD is NOT ATTEMPTING TO CONTACT YOU REGARDING YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. If you receive a call from someone stating they are from Washington Township Police with regards to your Social Security Number being compromised, DO NOT GIVE THE CALLER ANY INFORMATION. Hang up the phone and call our station at 717-762-1447 or our dispatch center at 717-762-1145 to speak with an Officer to verify if one of our Officers is legitimately attempting to contact you.
Please share this information with your friends and family!!! Especially your elderly friends and family. We do not want anyone to become a victim of fraud.
If you are ever in doubt about the legitimacy of a call, even if it is not from Washington Township Police, please don't hesitate to contact our station or dispatch and run it by an Officer to see if it is a scam.
