Revised Temporary Targeted Safer at Home Health Officer Order for Control of COVID-19

Effective today, Thursday, December 10, 2020, and through at least December 27, 2020, the County of Los Angeles Health Officer posted a revised order. It puts a great emphasis requesting all County residents to remain in their residence except as necessary to conduct activities specifically permitted in the Order, to limit close contact with others outside their household in both outdoor and indoor spaces and to further reduce the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 resulting from the unprecedented surge of new daily cases.

We understand that during the County’s telebriefing yesterday, it was reported that Rosemead’s COVID-19 case rate is one of the highest in the San Gabriel Valley. However, we want to note that our overall cases are still lower than those from our neighboring cities. In the last month, the City’s rates have increased by 582 confirmed cases resulting in a 57% case surge. We take this pandemic very seriously and send our deepest sympathies to those whose lives have been affected by this pandemic.

The revised temporary Order includes the following revisions:
• Playgrounds located on schools that remain open for in-person instruction, and not accessible by the general public, may remain open and must follow County and State protocols for schools. Note: The skatepark and all City playgrounds are closed to the public;
• Closure of all personal care establishments which include hair salons, nail salons, barbershops, esthetic skin care shops, electrology, body art professional shops, tattoo parlors, piercing shops, tanning salons and massage therapy (in non-healthcare settings);
• Stand-alone grocery stores where the principal business activity is the sale of food may operate at 35% of capacity. The sale of food, beverages, and alcohol for in-store consumption is prohibited; and
• Restaurants and other food facilities that prepare and serve food may remain open but only for delivery, drive thru, and carry out. Indoor and outdoor onsite dining and seating is not permitted.

Residents, business owners, and employees must continue to observe physical distancing requirements and prevention techniques outlined in the Order. Failure to comply with these provisions constitutes a threat to public health and is a crime and punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both.
