Detectives arrested James Ooten Jr. of Yucca Valley for child cruelty

SUSPECT: James Ooten Jr., 25 year old resident of Yucca Valley
VICTIM: Confidential – Three-year-old male
SUMMARY:
On November 15, 2020, deputies from the Morongo Basin Station responded to a report of child abuse at a residence in Twentynine Palms. The three-year-old victim had multiple bruises and marks on his legs. Deputies learned the victim had just returned from a custodial visit with the injuries. During the investigation, detectives verified the identity of the suspect who caused the injuries to be James Ooten Jr. On December 3, 2020, an arrest warrant was issued for Ooten Jr. for his violation of PC 273A(A) - Child Cruelty.
On December 10, 2020, Ooten Jr. arrived at the San Bernardino County Probation Department office for an appointment and was arrested. Ooten Jr. was transported and booked for Child Cruelty at the Morongo jail. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
