PETTIS COUNTY COVID-19 TASK FORCE
BRIEFING
DECEMBER 14, 2020

To communicate openly with county residents, this compilation of information from essential government service providers within Pettis County will be disseminated on Mondays.  This briefing will continue to be provided throughout the COVID-19 event.

Please note:  Only the agencies with updated information will be included in the briefing.

HEALTH CARE:
Bothwell Community Health Center

• Bothwell’s drive-through COVID-19 testing is located at the Sheep Pavilion on the Missouri State Fairgrounds Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All individuals will need to pre-register by calling 660-827-7900 or visiting www.brhc.org/covidtest prior to being tested. People should enter the fairgrounds at gate 6A on Clarendon Road and follow the signs for pre-registration or registration. Curbside testing will not be available at the Walk In Clinic during the winter months.
• Bothwell offers monoclonal antibody therapy for COVID-19 positive patients. The treatment is to prevent hospitalization as patients progress from mild to moderate COVID-19 and is administered through an outpatient setting. Patients who test positive should speak with their primary care provider to discuss the best treatment for their case. 
• People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed below, individuals should contact their primary care provider or visit the Walk In Clinic for COVID testing. COVID-19 symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea. After being tested for COVID, individuals should stay home until test results are available to prevent spreading the virus. 

• Katy Trail Community Health is continuing to serve their patients.   To schedule an appointment, please call 877-733-5824.
• Katy Trail Community Health continues to support the need for community testing at each of our sites.  Individuals can access our website to request an appointment for testing or call to schedule an appointment.  Testing hours have been expanded into the afternoon at the Sedalia location.

• As of December 14, 2020 at noon there are 3765 cases as compared to 3562 cases on December 7 compared and 3304 cases on November 30.   This is an increase of 203 cases in the past week and 461 cases in the past 2 weeks.    The data on the DHSS website is getting closer to the data collected locally.  Pettis County ranks 8^th highest county with the number of cases per 100,000.
• The positivity rate for the week of December 1-7 is 20.25 % which is an improvement.   Unfortunately, we are continuing to see an increase in hospitalizations and deaths.
• The release of the Pfizer vaccine is an important step toward ending the pandemic and the changes that the pandemic has caused for our community.   We are developing the plans for immunization for the community.  Even though this is a good start, we will need to continue to do the preventative steps for a while longer, but the end is much closer now.  Please be patient and listen for additional information.
• Based upon the public health warning issued by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Pettis County is an extreme risk county.  The parameters for being an extreme risk county are a PCR 7-day positivity rate of 15% or above and a 7 day case rate per 100,000 of 350 or above.  As stated above, Pettis County far exceeds these thresholds.  The recommendations from the guidance include occupancy limits in businesses to reflect social distancing (a minimum of 6 feet between customers or tables), limiting social groups to 10 or less (a social group is defined as any planned or spontaneous event or gathering that would bring together a group of people in a single space at the same time, excluding normal business activities, religious services, schools and school activities and extended family gatherings) and masks strongly advised (although still required in Pettis County) in all offices and businesses where social distancing is not possible.
• Additional instructions on how to receive information for employers/school for contacts and those who are positive is available on the Pettis County Health Center website, www.pettiscountyhealthcenter.com and Facebook page. Pettis County will continue with quarantine for 14 days after exposure.  
• As an Extreme High Risk County, this provides the best opportunity to reduce the risk of transmission.  For completely ASYMPTOMATIC individuals who absolutely can not remain in quarantine for 14 days, the 10 day option may be used.  Individuals need to continue to monitor for the entire 14 day period and seek testing if symptoms develop.  Any option to test out of quarantine is not appropriate for our county.  The entire text of the revised quarantine guidance will be available on the Pettis County Health Center website.  Nothing has changed for the isolation period of 10 days for positive cases. 
• The Health Center is partnering with Bothwell Regional Health Center and Katy Trail Community Health to prepare for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.  As more specific information becomes available, we will communicate with the community about where vaccine will be available.
• Mental health issues are a challenge during the pandemic.   There are people who are isolating in their homes for fear of catching the virus, but this isolation is not healthy for them.   The isolation and fear has passed the level of caution and is a threat to their well being.    Burrell has a crisis line at 1-800-395-2132.  Compass Health also has a crisis line at 1-800-237-4567 for substance abuse issue.   If you know of someone who is struggling with isolation and fear, please help them reach out for help.
