MESSAGE FROM THE DANVILLE TOWN COUNCIL

Town Council Message to the Community –
To our Danville Community,

We’re reaching out to you today, as the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are coming to California, to thank you for following the County Health Order, and to express our support for all who have been negatively affected by the virus and the necessary restrictions that have been put in place. This has been a challenge unlike any that we’ve ever faced.   It’s affecting a great many in our community, and our hearts go out to everyone who is suffering.

As your Town Council, we are continuing to advocate for you with the county and the state, working with staff to provide assistance and support, and listening to the concerns of the community. We understand the frustration many of you feel over the restrictions that have been placed on us by the county and the state health orders. However, it’s important that we continue to follow these orders as they are in place to help stop the spread of the virus and protect all of us.

To those who ask why we, as a Town, don’t create our own health order, the answer is that by law the County Health Officer has the ability to issue these orders during a health emergency. The Town is required, by law, not just to follow the order but to enforce it.  This is not something we do lightly nor without understanding or care for how these orders affect our community. For many months, our police department has used educational enforcement, to help residents or businesses understand what is in the health order and what was needed to comply. Unfortunately, we have continued to see our numbers rise which has forced us to begin issuing citations to those who simply will not follow the rules.

Our business community has taken the brunt of the pandemic impact, and we are asking you to throw all of your support behind them. Our local businesses are an important part of our community vibrancy.  For safety, please order takeout or delivery from our restaurants, and eat your food at home. Gathering outside the restaurants does not help them, nor does it honor the intent of the Stay-at-Home order which is designed to help prevent the spread of the virus and protect the community, the business owner, and their staff.

Do your holiday shopping at local retailers. Take advantage of our local stores offering online shopping and use the curbside pickup zones to get your products.  Or come downtown to do your shopping, with the understanding that stores are limited in the number of people who can go inside. Be patient in the knowledge that you are safeguarding your health and the health of those around you, but also providing much-needed help and support to our businesses.

Gift cards are another way to help businesses. Purchase gift cards now that you can redeem once the pandemic is past and you can safely come down and enjoy the dining and shopping experience that makes Danville such an amazing place.

We are not out of the woods yet, but we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel. While we wait for the distribution of the vaccine, we must continue to hold the line and do all that we can to turn this surge around and bring Danville’s COVID cases down.

I know that the Danville community will continue to meet this challenge. That is something that has remained a constant during this emergency. That you, our community, will join together in times of need and pull us through the crisis.  We will succeed because we care about one another, we care about our businesses, and we love our town.

Have a happy and safe holiday season.
