CRIME PREVENTION TIPS FOR TRUCK TAILGATE THEFT
  1. If possible, park your truck in a locked garage. This is the safest way. If thieves can’t see or quickly access your truck, they won’t bother.
  2. Lock your truck tailgate lock. The tailgate has to be swung open to remove it. A locked tailgate won’t allow that.
  3. If you must park in your driveway, back your truck close to the garage door. Again, thieves must be able to open the gate to remove it. Restricting access makes your truck a much less attractive target.
  4. Install a tailgate lock. These are relatively cheap pieces of metal that prevent the tailgate from being removed so easily. Keyed or remote tailgate locks are also available ranging from $60 to $90 on up.
  5. Buy hose clamps. A simple hose clamp on the tailgate hinges deters theft because a thief will not want to spend the additional time necessary to remove the clamp before removing your tailgate. Instructions can be found at this link:  https://youtu.be/pjqt2ByIrQQ.
