Drug Arrest Leads to Search Warrant for Firearms and Suspect Meth Lab (San Andreas)
On December 2, 2020, at about 9:00 AM deputies were dispatched to the 2000 block of Gun Club Road in Angels Camp, for a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that approximately 1,500 pounds of copper wire and about $3,000 worth of tools had been taken from the property. Deputies collected evidence at the scene and began an investigation.
On December 7, 2020, the Calaveras County Probation department learned that Zachary Anglin (age 34 of Avery, CA) had been arrested at the Chevron Gas Station in San Andreas two days prior for possession of methamphetamine and violation of probation. Although Anglin was required to wear an ankle monitor due to terms of his probation, he was not wearing one at the time of his arrest.
Follow up was conducted by the Calaveras County Probation Department and Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. Anglin’s ankle monitor was tracked to a residence located in the 3000 block of Highway 49 in San Andreas. Deputies and Probation Officers responded to this residence for the purpose of retrieving the ankle monitor.
During the collection of the monitor, several bins containing industrial copper wire were observed at the residence. Deputies from the Calaveras County Rural Crimes Task Force were able to confirm the copper wire was stolen from the burglary in Angels Camp. During the investigation, Deputies discovered that Zachary Anglin had left the wire and his ankle monitor at the San Andrea’s residence on December 5, prior to his arrest at the Chevron Gas Station.
Anglin was charged with 3455 PC (Revocation of Supervised Release- Felony), 496(A) PC (Possession of Stolen Property -Felony), and 182 (A)(1) (PC Conspiracy -Felony). Due to the violation of probation, Anglin is being held without bail.
On December 11, 2020, Detectives, Deputies from the Calaveras County Narcotics Enforcement Unit, and members of the Calaveras County Probation Department returned to the residence located in the 3000 block of Highway 49 in San Andreas to serve a search warrant. The search warrant had been obtained based on additional information and observations made during the previous visit to the address. Specifically, the search warrant authorized law enforcement members to search for firearms and ammunition which were illegally possessed by a person who had been convicted of a felony.
During the service of the search warrant, Deputies and Probation Officers located nine firearms, including one fully automatic .45 caliber machine pistol, and one prohibited weapon.
Additionally, an outbuilding located behind the residence was found to contain numerous bottles and containers consistent with the production of methamphetamine. The bottles were safely removed by members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Hazardous Materials Team and will be further analyzed; however, preliminary tests revealed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine on items associated to the bottles.
As Deputies and Probation Officers continued searching, they located over 1000 rounds of ammunition, over 19 grams of suspected methamphetamine, numerous used hypodermic needles, and suspected heroin.
Child Protective Services conducted an investigation and removed a minor child from the residence. The child was placed into protective custody. Additionally, Calaveras County Code Compliance responded to the scene to investigate hazardous electrical issues, unpermitted structures, and debris.
Ki Purvis (age 35 of San Andreas, CA) was arrested for the following charges: 29800 (a) PC (Prohibited Person Possessing a Firearm), 30305 (a) (1) PC (Prohibited Person Possessing Ammunition), 11379.6 HS (Manufacturing a Controlled Substance), 11350 HS (Possessing a Narcotic Controlled Substance), 11364 HS (Possession of Drug Paraphernalia), and 11377 (A) HS (Possession of Controlled Substance).
