Daytime burglary interrupted, suspect arrested in Corte Madera

A man was arrested last week after residents surprised him in their Corte Madera home.

On Thursday, December 10th at 1:22 p.m. Central Marin Police received a report of an interrupted burglary at a home on Casa Buena Drive. The residents returned home after running a brief errand and could hear noise and someone yelling in an upstairs room. The suspect ran down from the second floor right past one of the victims, out the front door, and down their driveway to the road. The victim called 9-1-1 and provided a description of the suspect. She also described a gray Chevy Silverado truck parked at the bottom of the driveway that seemed out of place.

Officers arrived and were searching the area when a man walked up Casa Buena towards the Chevy truck, carrying two large screens. Officers contacted him and he said that the Chevy was his and he was doing some work in the neighborhood. His physical description matched that of the suspect so he was detained for an in-field identification. Both victims positively identified him as the man who ran out of their home. The suspect, Jason Ryan Baker, was taken into custody for residential burglary. He consented to a search of his truck, and a large quantity of suspected narcotics packaged for sale and cash was found inside. An evidence search of the area turned up property and clothing discarded behind a nearby building. The victims identified the property as theirs and the clothing matched what Baker was wearing when he ran from the house. It was later determined that Baker was seen taking the screens from a dumpster down the street, most likely as a cover for his presence near the crime scene.

Baker, age 39, of San Rafael was booked at Marin County Jail on numerous charges, including residential burglary, possession of burglary tools, sales of narcotics, possession of narcotics for sale, manufacturing a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $50,000.

This investigation is continuing and may be linked to other property crimes or suspicious incidents in Marin. If you have any information about this case or other recent incidents involving the suspect, please contact Detective Charlene Cunningham at [email protected] or call 415.927.5150.
