SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20TH UPDATE ON CART DISTRIBUTION
Thank you to all residents who submitted feedback regarding the progress of delivery yesterday evening. After consulting with the distribution company, they discovered that an upload error had caused the asset management system to show that distribution was complete when in fact it was not. Resident feedback helped to determine this quickly and we appreciate your prompt attention to these alerts. Distribution crews will be working today and the Borough will closely monitor progress-an update will be provided later today. All other information disseminated yesterday remains the same:
- These carts MUST NOT be used until Wednesday, January 6th. The current solid waste contractor's trucks are not compatible with them and cannot lift them. If garbage or recycling is put out in these carts before the end of the year, Blue Diamond WILL NOT pick it up.
- The last garbage pickup by Blue Diamond will be Saturday, December 26th; the last recycling pickup by Blue Diamond will be Thursday, December 31st. The first recycling pickup by the Borough will be Wednesday, January 6th; the first garbage pickup by the Borough will be Thursday, January 7th. We realize that this is a full 12 days between pickups instead of 7, but we felt that it was important to start pickups on their normal day (rather than have to shift and/or pay overtime for collection on a holiday or weekend), and with extra room afforded by the 95 gallon carts there should not be any capacity problems.
- Rumors circulating on Facebook about the Borough charging homeowners a replacement for damaged carts is "fake news." Solid waste carts are designed to be left outside, carry heavy loads and to stand up to use and abuse, but normal wear and tear will take its toll and they will break from time to time. If a cart is found to be damaged it will be swapped out for a new one and the old one will be repaired. The Borough has purchased spare carts for this purpose. NO HOMEOWNER WILL BE CHARGED FOR REPLACEMENT OF A DAMAGED OR STOLEN CART.
