Storm preparation notice from JCP&L
Storm preparation notice from JCP&L:
Jersey Central Power & Light is monitoring the Weather and Prepared to Respond.
FirstEnergy meteorologists are closely monitoring the weather front predicted to impact our region tomorrow (Christmas Eve). The forecast is calling for high winds starting during daylight hours on Thursday and building in strength through the evening with peak winds at, or around midnight.
We are anticipating and preparing for winds capable of causing damage and power outages and are staffing accordingly.
Please remind your residents to report all outages by calling our contact center or by utilizing our website or text messaging options. Please treat all downed wires as if they are live and report them immediately.
The timing of the event poses additional challenges as many homes and lawns are decorated for the holiday season. The high winds could dislodge some of these items, especially inflatable style decorations which could become airborne and become entangled in electrical lines and equipment, adding to the possibility of outages.
As a reminder, although JCP&L will have crews and resources on hand, but may not be able to go up in the air for repairs other than life and limb situations until the winds subside below 35 mph. I understand that this may delay any restoration efforts, but we need to ensure the safety and health of our employees and return them to their families at the end of their shift.
Our meteorologists predict heavy rainfall of 1-2" in our territory and strong wind gusts of 30-40mph and higher along the coastal region during the evening of December 24 into December 25.
Cold temperatures also may create icy conditions.
In advance of any severe weather, here are some tips for customers:

Reporting Downed Wires: Customers should immediately report downed wires to 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) or call their local police department. JCP&L reminds customers to stay away from downed wires, even if they believe they are no longer carrying electricity. Extra caution should be used in areas where downed lines are tangled with trees or other debris. Motorists are cautioned to treat intersections with inoperable traffic signals as four-way stops.
