Crime Alert Bulletin for the Weeks of December 7-20, 2020 (part 1 of 2)

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 12-07-20 at 2:12 a.m., Officer Todaro conducted a check of an occupied parked vehicle at the Hillside Boulevard Exxon Mobil gas station that was closed for the evening. The occupant, a 50-year old Watsonville resident, was subsequently arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of unlawful paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, 12-08-20 at 10:11 p.m., Officer Fulmore was in the parking lot of the Loop Gas station on Hillside Boulevard and saw a motorcycle without a rear license plate parked in a stall in front of the convenience store. As he got closer to the motorcycle, Officer Fulmore saw that the motorcycle was painted gray over the original color. He looked for a VIN but could not see it, as it was covered by paint. The ignition of the motorcycle was removed and replaced with a toggle switch. A male exited the store and removed his helmet. The officer asked the subject if the motorcycle belonged to him, and the subject said he had recently purchased the bike from a friend in San Jose. The officer asked to see the paperwork, and the subject said it was in his backpack. The officer asked the subject if he had identification, and the subject said he knew he shouldn’t be driving and verbally provided his name. The subject, a 33-year old Daly City resident, did not have driver's license and was on probation. The officer asked to see the paperwork for the motorcycle, and the subject said it was actually at his mom’s house in Daly City. Officer Wagnon arrived to assist in looking for the VIN, and he discovered the motorcycle was stolen from San Jose in September 2019. The subject changed his story about the motorcycle several times, saying he actually had it for a few months and purchased it from someone in San Jose. He told the officers he didn’t think it was strange to purchase a vehicle for cash and not receive a title. Due to COVID-19 protocols, Officer Fulmore could not book the subject into jail. A complaint will be sought against the subject for possession of a stolen vehicle.

On Thursday, 12-10-20 at approximately 11:53 p.m., Officer Greene was dispatched to a call of an in-progress burglary at the Autozone on Mission Street. The reporting party was off-site monitoring the video surveillance and saw a male subject break the glass door and enter the business. The reporting party gave a description of the suspect, and he was not on the premises when Officer Greene arrived. At approximately midnight, Officer Fulmore found a subject matching the description on the 3100 block of San Jose Avenue. The suspect, a 36-year old transient, was on probation. The officers searched the subject’s possessions, and several items were the property of Autozone. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the subject was not booked in jail. He was cited for commercial burglary, felony vandalism, and possession of burglary tools.

On Saturday, 12-12-20 at 2:00 p.m., Officer Chittenden was dispatched to the area in front of the Trader Joe’s store on a report of a disturbance involving mall security and a subject threatening security with an object. Officer Smith and Officer Perdomo advised they were talking with the suspect, a 44-year old Daly City resident. The reporting party, a Walgreen’s employee, said he told the subject to leave the store. He said the subject was holding a fork in his hand between his closed fist—as if it was a stabbing implement. The reporting party said the subject went to the bathroom and spent approximately 20 minutes inside the bathroom. The reporting party said he could smell something burning inside, and when he went inside, he said the subject came out eating an ice cream sandwich. The reporting party told the subject two more times to leave, and the subject ignored him. The subject had a single .40 caliber bullet in his person. This case will be forwarded to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office for prosecution for possession of ammunition and trespassing.

On Sunday, 12-13-20 at approximately 4:02 p.m., an 18-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. This occurred following a traffic collision on the 800 block of Brunswick Street.

On Sunday, 12-13-20 at approximately 7:04 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Westlake Shopping Center Target store on a report of three Asian male adults who pulled a gun out on an Asian male adult. The reporting party said he was sitting outside when he saw two males entering the store. He heard one of the security guards not to let the males enter, but the subjects left but then entered the store again. As the two subjects went outside, one of the subjects pulled a small black firearm from the front of his pants, and pulled the slide back and said, “What’s up, what’s up.” The suspects left the area in a black Lexus. Officers found the vehicle and the two suspects in the area of Mission Street and School Street. When they searched the vehicle, they found two firearms. One subject, a 17-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, carrying a loaded firearm concealed while not the registered owner, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and possessing a concealed firearm as a juvenile. The other subject, an 18-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, carrying a loaded firearm concealed while not the registered owner, and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. There was another occupant, a 20-year old San Jose resident, in the vehicle, but he was not charged.

On Tuesday, 12-15-20 at 3:26 a.m., Officer Wagnon conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Bellevue Avenue and Acton Street. During the enforcement stop, Officer Wagnon found a floor jack and multiple tools commonly used in the theft of catalytic converters. One of the passengers in the car said they hadn’t stolen any catalytic converters but eluded to the fact that they were on a scouting mission. That subject, a 38-year old San Pablo resident, was cited for possession of burglary tools and possession of a controlled substance. The driver, a 49-year old Oakland resident, was cited for possession of burglary tools and for driving with a suspended/revoked driver's license. The other passenger, a 35-year old Oakley resident, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, 12-16-20 at approximately 7:40 p.m., a 10-year old Daly City resident and his 50-year old father were reported as missing persons after the father left their apartment on Cerro Drive with his son and didn’t tell anyone where he was going. The reporting party feared the father, a drug user, was going to sell his son for drugs. At approximately 10:10 p.m., the two had returned safely. The father was under the influence of a controlled substance and was placed under arrest.

On Sunday, 12-20-20 at approximately 6:11 p.m., several officers were dispatched to an apartment on the 7500 block of Mission Street on the report of a male who was hallucinating. The reporting party told the dispatcher that the subject was becoming aggressive and grabbed a knife, preventing the family from leaving the house. Over a half dozen officers arrived, and the 31-year old suspect was subsequently arrested for false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon via holding a knife to his 25-year old sister’s neck. The subject was also charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance. An emergency protective order was served.
