The Major Accident Investigation Team arrested Nicolas Gonzalez for fleeing the scene of a fatal traffic collision

LOCATION: Main Street west of Balsam Avenue, Hesperia
SUSPECT: Nicolas Gonzalez, 25 years old, resident of Hesperia
VICTIM: 11-year-old male, resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY:
On December 27, 2020 at about 5:54 am, deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to an unknown injury collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Main Street and Balsam Avenue. Once deputies arrived, they found the driver fled the scene in the involved vehicle. Deputies located an 11-year-old male, who had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
Deputies J. Bray and D. Whitson with the Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the location and took over the investigation. Main Street was closed for several hours while investigators documented and processed the scene. Deputies generated investigative leads which led to the identification and arrest of the driver who fled after the collision.
Nicolas Gonzalez was arrested, and the involved vehicle was located at a business in the city of Riverside. Gonzalez was booked at West Valley Detention Center for felony violation of California Vehicle Code 20001(a) Fleeing the Scene of a Collision, which resulted in serious bodily injury or death.
