A fatal traffic collision occurred on Hwy 18 west of Rancherias Road

INVOLVED PARTY (1): 40-year-old male adult, pedestrian
INVOLVED PARTY (2): 61-year-old male adult, driving a white 2004 Toyota Sienna
INVOLVED PARTY (3): 26-year-old male adult, driving a white 2020 Toyota Corolla
SUMMARY: On December 27, 2020, at about 6:46 pm, deputies from the Apple Valley Station and emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department responded to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and two vehicles in the area of State Highway 18 west of Rancherias Road in the Town of Apple Valley.
Through preliminary investigation, it is believed the pedestrian was running across State Highway 18 west of Rancherias Road. A white Toyota Sienna was traveling westbound on State Highway 18. Although the Sienna attempted to swerve, the driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian. A short time later, a Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on State Highway 18 struck the pedestrian who was lying in the roadway. Although emergency personnel attempted to render aid to the pedestrian, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. All involved parties remained at the scene of the collision and contacted law enforcement.
Investigators from the Apple Valley Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and assumed the investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is urged to contact Deputy S.
