Advisory

New Year's Eve Fireworks Enforcement

We all can agree 2020 has been a difficult and sometimes stressful year for all of us. As we get ready to ring in the New Year, Morgan Hill PD would like to remind everyone to celebrate safely with your immediate family members and to report those who chose to light off illegal fireworks.
In the past, fireworks have resulted in brush fires, damaged homes, missing pets, and unnecessary injuries. Our surrounding hills are still dry and every illegal firework poses a significant threat to the safety of our community.

Illegally obtained fireworks and “Safe and Sane” fireworks purchased legally elsewhere are still illegal in the City of Morgan Hill. Morgan Hill Police and Fire have adopted a “zero tolerance” policy for illegal fireworks and will be actively patrolling New Year’s Eve for violations. The use and or possession of illegal fireworks will result in the following fines.

Between December 30-January 2 each year FINES WILL TRIPLE...................
1st violation is $300, 2nd violation is $600, and 3rd violation is $1,500.

Reference sections of the Morgan Hill Municipal Code:

8.32.010 - Sale or possession of fireworks is prohibited.
8.32.030 - Violation of this section is a misdemeanor
