The Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a fatal off-road vehicle collision

INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Fir Street / Opal Avenue, Hesperia
SUMMARY:
On January 1, 2021, at approximately 4:38 p.m., deputies from Hesperia Station, along with rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, responded to the intersection of Fir Street and Opal Avenue reference an off-highway vehicle traffic accident. Despite first responder efforts, fire personnel pronounced the passenger of the vehicle deceased at the scene.
The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded and assumed the investigation. Preliminary evidence indicates the off-highway vehicle was traveling northbound on Opal Avenue and left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle collided with a dirt berm on the west side of the roadway and overturned several times. The 23-year-old male passenger of the vehicle was ejected and suffered major injuries. The 20-year-old male driver suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy E. Perez from the Hesperia Station.
