Hazardous Weather Outlook.
SHERIFF VICTOR HILL
A Winter Storm Warning is still in effect for portions of northern Georgia through 7 PM on Friday. We continue to monitor radar and temperature trends with this system. Thus far, most of the lower elevations have remained mainly just a mix of rain and snow with no accumulations. However, webcams at the highest peaks continue to show accumulating snowfall and will therefore keep the warning in place for now.
Overview: What's Changed: We no longer expect freezing rain with this event and have removed it from the forecast. We currently have a lull in the activity, which will likely decrease overall anticipated totals. Despite this, with additional precipitation possible, the Winter Storm Warning continues through 7 PM this evening for Murray, Towns, Union, White, Lumpkin, Dawson, Gilmer, and Fannin counties.
Impact: Current temperatures remain above freezing, which should keep impacts limited. Some slick roadways will be possible as temperatures drop back below freezing. NOTE: These areas (and amounts) are subject to change with future forecasts.
Your EMA team will continue to monitor the storm and provide updates as the forecast evolves.
Safety Message: Winter storms are dangerous. They can bring cold temperatures, power failures, loss of communication services, and icy roads.
