El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter 12-29-2020 to 01-08-2020

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

December 29th

Warrant Arrest- El Cerrito Police Department:
At 11:00 am, a 60-year-old man from Newark turned himself in after receiving a notification from the ECPD that he had a warrant. The man was issued a citation with a new court date and released.

Warrant Arrest- El Cerrito Police Department:
At 1:20 pm, a 57-year-old woman from Hercules turned herself in after receiving a notification from the ECPD that she had a warrant. The woman was issued a citation with a new court date and released.

Warrant Arrest- El Cerrito Police Department:
At 3:23 pm, a 42-year-old man from San Francisco turned himself in after receiving a notification from the ECPD that he had a warrant. The man was issued a citation with a new court date and released.

Vehicle Theft- Cutting Boulevard @ Junction Avenue:
At 1:55 pm, a Community Service Officer recovered a 2009 Lexus which was reported stolen to the Oakland Police Department.

Vandalism- El Cerrito Plaza:
An officer reports an unknown suspect shattered the window to a Toyota Highlander

Traffic Pursuit – I-80 and Central Ave:
At 12:06 am, an officer attempted to stop a stolen vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. The CHP arrived and took over the pursuit near the city of Berkeley.

Traffic Pursuit, Parole Violation – I-80 and Potrero Ave:
At 3:20 am, an officer attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on a vehicle. The vehicle did not yield, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle yielded on I80 near Berkeley. The driver was detained. The passenger of the vehicle then got into the driver seat and fled the scene. After a pursuit from CHP, the second driver was taken into custody. The two males, a 31-year-old and 30-year-old, were booked. The 31-year-old was released on a citation while the 30-year-old, was taken to county jail for a parole violation warrant.

December 30th

Grand Theft – 11500 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 7:50 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle.

December 31st

Vandalism – Potrero Avenue at Kearney Street –
At 08:30 am, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 50-year-old Richmond man for vandalism after he threw a rock at the victim’s car. The man was issued a citation in the field and released.

Shoplift – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s):
At 11:35 am, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 45-year-old man after he was detained by BART PD for shoplifting $55 worth of toilet paper. The man was issued a citation in the field and released.

Traffic Pursuit – I80 and Potrero Ave:
At 11:46 pm, an officer attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on a stolen vehicle. The vehicle field to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit was terminated when the driver began to drive recklessly.

January 1st:

No reportable events.

January 2nd:

Robbery – Chevron, 11319 San Pablo Ave.
At 06:20 am, officers responded to the report of a robbery that just occurred. An unknown suspect entered Chevron with his hands in his pockets. The suspect appeared to have a firearm in his pocket and took cash and cigarettes.

Vehicle Theft - 11755 San Pablo Avenue:
At 11:21 am, an officer responded to the report of an auto theft. An unknown suspect stole the keys and then a vehicle.

January 3rd:

Warrant Arrest, Domestic Violence Restraining Order Violation – Stockton Avenue at Richmond Street.

At 8:10 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was found to have a felony domestic violence warrant from Los Angeles County. The driver was also the subject of a domestic violence restraining order and the protected party was in the vehicle. The subject was arrested and booked into the MDF.

January 4th:

Vandalism - 6200 block of Fairmount Ave:
At 8:20 am, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect using an unknown object to break the front window of the business. There did not appear to have been any loss.

January 5th:

Auto Burglary – 6300 Fairmount Ave:
At 1:11 pm, an officer responded to the report of an auto burglary that occurred in between 1/4/2021 at 2000 hours and 1/5/2021 at 1300 hours. During that time, an unknown suspect smashed the rear windows to the victim’s vehicle and stole a box containing cleaning supplies.

Vandalism – Lucky’s, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 3:59 pm, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect causing malicious damage to the victim’s vehicle. On January 3rd, in between 1715 and 1815 hours, an unknown suspect caused a large dent in the hood of the victim’s vehicle resulting in an estimated $3000 in damage.

Grand Theft – 6900 block of Gladys Ave:
At 5:01 pm, an officer responded to the report of a theft. In between 1/3/2021 and 1/5/2021 at 1600 hours, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s 2007 Honda CRV.

January 6th:

Vandalism – 1900 block of Key Blvd:
At 8:45 pm, an officer reports an unknown person slashed a tire on the victim’s vehicle while it was parked and unattended.

Grand Theft – 6400 block of Portola Dr:
At 10:00 pm, an officer reports the victim’s bicycle was stolen from a locked community bicycle storage area.
