The City of Jonesboro experienced (5) robberies and (3) shootings in the area of 8050 Tara Blvd; Tara Hills Apartments, within the past two weeks. The suspect(s) reportedly approached all of the victims at gunpoint, took their phones, and sent money from the victims’ accounts to a personal Cash App account.

Jonesboro Police Chief Tommy Henderson ask for assistance from the Sheriff’s Office for added patrols while his Detectives began investigating leads to develop suspects Yesterday, Jonesboro Police Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant to search a residence at 8050 Tara Blvd occupied by a suspect they identified as Jody Johnson.

Sheriff Victor Hill had his elite units surveil the location for Jonesboro Police, and after they spotted Johnson, they detained him so that Jonesboro Police Detectives could safely execute the search warrant.   Detectives found evidence linking Johnson to the robberies to include a firearm and Johnson later confessed to the robberies.

As a result of the investigation by Jonesboro Police Detectives, Jody Johnson was formally charged with (4) counts of Armed Robbery, (5) counts of  Aggravated Assault, (2) counts of Entering Auto, (1) count of Theft by Taking, (2) count of Discharging a Firearm near Public Highway, and (1) count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

A second suspect was identified as an accomplice to one of the robberies and was captured today by the elite Fugitive Squad.  Lajarvis Askew was taken into custody at his residence without incident and has been charged with armed robbery as well by Jonesboro Police.

Askew and Johnson learned today that a family who robs together faces the wall together at Georgia’s toughest para-military jail better known as “The Hill-ton”.
