#LASD San Dimas Sheriff’s station has seen an increase in Catalytic Converter Thefts
Recently, we've noticed a spike in catalytic converter thefts in the city and county areas. The precious metal in catalytic converters make it a hot item and are easy to obtain.
San Dimas station deputies have been conducting operations to help reduce these thefts, however, we need your help.
We are asking drivers and businesses to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity in your area. If you've been a victim of this crime, you know it's frustrating and expensive to replace. It only takes a few minutes to have someone go underneath your vehicle and remove it. Please know we are here to serve our communities.
Here are a few tips to keep your vehicle safe (especially if you own one of the following: F-250 & F-350 trucks, Cargo Van, utility trucks, or Prius’):
• If possible, park your vehicles inside your garage, keep your garage door closed and locked.
• Park in your driveway, make sure it is well-lit and all valuables are taken out or out of view.
• Have at least one of your security cameras facing outward (to capture video of suspicious people/vehicles on your driveway or surface street).
• Install motion sensor activated lights or flood lights around your home.
• Engrave your vehicle’s VIN number to the catalytic converter (if possible).
• If going out, park in well-lit areas and close to building security cameras (if any).
• Report any suspicious persons/vehicles to our dispatch at 909-450-2700.
Remember when calling to report a suspicious vehicle, please try give make, model and color of the vehicle (license plate if possible). If reporting a suspicious person, please remember to give gender, age, clothing description & if you see any weapons.
Anyone with information about these type of incidents or any other crimes are encourage to contact their local police department.
