On Monday, 01-11-21 at approximately 6:32 p.m., Officer Moody was dispatched to the report of a brandishing that occurred at the Safeway store. The reporting party said she was working at the front registers of the self-checkout section when she saw a female who was not wearing a mask who cut the self-checkout line and begin to scan her items. The reporting party asked the female to get out of line and to put on her mask. The reporting party said the female coughed at/in the vicinity of her and refused to leave. The female began to use profanity towards the reporting party as the female completed paying for her items. As the female began to walk out of the store, she grabbed a pack of gum and threw it at the reporting party, hitting her in the right shoulder. The female ran out of the store and was chased by Safeway employees. As the female approached her vehicle, she turned around and told everyone to stop following her and pulled out a pocketknife and pointed it in the direction of the employees. Everyone stopped following the female, and she left the scene.

T-Mobile/Bitcoin Scam
On 01-14-21 at approximately 11:45 a.m., a 48-year old Daly City resident reported he received a text message on his cellphone that morning saying there were attempts to change his password to his T-Mobile account. The victim did not trust the text and called what he believed was the T-Mobile phone number. The victim said he was told there were attempts to change his password and code to his account, and that T-Mobile was able to freeze his account. The victim said T-Mobile sent him a new passcode to an old email address he uses for a Bitcoin account that he has had for some time. The victim believes this email account possibly may have been hacked. The victim said he started the account approximately two years ago at $5,000, and it has grown interest to approximately $27,000. The victim said a short time later, he received a call from a blocked number who said they worked with an accounting firm called “Ledger” that dealt with his Bitcoin account who told him his Bitcoin account had been hacked. The caller requested the victim’s passcode and anonymous account identification numbers, and the victim gave them to him. The victim then believed he was the victim of hackers and hung up the phone. The victim checked his Bitcoin account and saw that all of his funds were deleted.

San Mateo County is now under a “Regional Stay at Home Order” as virus cases and hospitalizations rise. The rules will remain in effect for at least three weeks. Nextdoor.com
Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
