El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter: January 8th - 16th.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

January 8th:

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – San Pablo Ave / Schmidt Ln:
At 1007 hours, an officer recovered a 1998 Honda Civic which was reported stolen to Central Marin on 12/27/2020.

January 9th:

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – S. 56th St / Carlos Ave:
At 0922 hours, an officer recovered a blue 1996 Toyota Corolla which was reported stolen San Francisco Police on 12/03/2020.

Auto Burglary – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave:
Between 01/08/2021 2230 hours to 01/09/2021 at 1200 hours, an unknown suspect broke the front passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a $350 pair of Oakley Sunglasses.

Residential Burglary – 5400 block of Zara Ave:
At 1657 hours, officers responded to a suspicious vehicle and found the front door the vehicle was parked in front of had been forced over and the interior ransacked.

Stolen Vehicle- 5700 block of El Dorado Ave:
At 6:30 pm, an officer reported the victim’s Toyota truck was stolen in between 0400 hours and 1850 hours.

January 10th

Shoplifting – 11060 San Pablo Ave (Big 5):
At 6:57 pm, an officer reported that two unidentified suspects entered the business and selected over $700 in merchandise before fleeing the store.

Attempted Stolen Vehicle – 700 block of Everett St:
At 5:18 am, an officer reported that an unknown suspect entered and started the victim’s vehicle but was unable to drive off due to a theft deterrent device.

January 11th

Commercial Burglary – 11299 San Pablo Ave (Western Dental):
At 7:40 pm, an officer reports that an unknown suspect entered the business sometime in the early morning hours and stole a safe from inside the business office.

Brandishing a Weapon – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 7:55 pm, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a 22-year-old man who threatened store staff with a metal pipe. The man was issued a citation and released from the scene.

Stolen Vehicle – 295 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 9:12 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle from the parking lot sometime during the day.

Burglary - 600 block of Kearney St:
An unknown suspect entered a shed sometime during the night and stole three high-end bicycles for a total loss of $20K.

January 12th:

Vandalism – 11687 San Pablo Ave (Valero Gas):
At 12:01 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect demanded merchandise from the clerk without payment. When the clerk declined, the suspect kicked the front door damaging the glass.

Vehicle tampering - 2400 block of Tulare Ave:
An unknown suspect attempted to steal a catalytic converter, but their efforts were thwarted when they saw an antitheft device protecting it.

Arson - 9950 San Pablo Ave:
At 5:28 pm, officers responded to several small fires which were started outside of the business. Upon officer’s arrival, bank employees had already extinguished them.

January 13th

Arson – 9901 San Pablo Ave (Chipotle):
At 2:09 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect set a dumpster at the business on fire. The Fire Department responded to the area and extinguished the fire. The following evening, an officer located the suspect and arrested the man. The 30-year-old man was then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Warrant Arrest - 10650 San Pablo Ave:
At 9:51 am, an officer contacted a 46-year-old man during a call for service at the business. A records check revealed the man had a warrant from a prior shoplifting case. The man was issued a citation and released from the scene.

January 14th

Trespassing - 400 block of Kearney St:
At 9:17 am, a 47-year-old-man entered the home through an unlocked front door. Once inside, the man told the mother and her children that someone was trying to shoot him. Officers arrived on scene, arrested the man for trespassing and arranged medical treatment for him. It was discovered there was no threat of someone trying to shoot the man.

January 15th

Outside Assistance - 11575 San Pablo Ave:
At 6:57 am, an officer spotted two subjects fighting near the business. After separating the two men, the officer learned the victim chased the suspect who had broken into his car at the Del Norte BART station. BART PD officers responded and took over the investigation.

Burglary - 1500 block of Arlington Blvd:
Around 1:00 pm, an unknown suspect entered the residence through an unlocked door and stole several items.

Unauthorized use of Access Card – 11299 San Pablo Ave (Del Norte Liquors):
At 7:54 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect used the victim’s credit card without the permission of the card owner.

January 16th

Grand Theft – San Pablo Ave / Knott Ave:
At 9:30 am, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victims Honda Accord.

Arrest for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Battery, Criminal Threats and a Parole Violation – (Baxter Creek) BART Path at Conlon Ave:
At 1:54 pm, El Cerrito police officers responded to two males fighting in the area. Officers located a victim bleeding in the face and detained the suspect, a 29 year old male from Richmond. The first victim confronted the suspect, who was in the victim’s homeless encampment in the creek. The suspect punched the victim in the face and hit the victim with a metal chair. When the second victim intervened, the suspect pushed her to the ground and chased her to her vehicle, which was parked nearby. While in her vehicle, the suspect threatened to kill her. Both victims were treated for their injuries by paramedics. The suspect who was on parole and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Vehicle Tampering – 200 block of Ramona Ave:
At 10:14 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle sometime over the past few days and damaged the ignition cylinder and steering column.
