VACCINE IN BURR RIDGE - “MASK FOR US”

Metro Infectious Disease Consultants (“MIDC”) at 901 McClintock continues to administer vaccines. Burr Ridge’s Dr. Russ Petrak and his group are giving priority to those ages 65 and older in Burr Ridge and DuPage County. MIDC also is giving priority to Police, EMS, fire, teachers and childcare workers in Burr Ridge and DuPage County. I have been asked if teachers serving Burr Ridge schools are eligible. I understand MIDC will make best efforts to accommodate teachers serving Burr Ridge schools, so please try emailing [email protected], including your name(s), date(s) of birth, and address, stressing that you are a Village resident. Due to the overwhelming demand, you may not receive an immediate response from MIDC. MIDC is giving the Pfizer vaccine on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Moderna on Tuesday and Thursday. There is a 3-week interval for Pfizer and 4-week interval for Moderna. Janet and I have scheduled our first dose for February 2. I encourage you to make a considered decision to be vaccinated.

The counting data is generally good or improving for residents in DuPage and Cook counties. Total COVID-19 cases in Burr Ridge as of today is at 907: 635 (DuPage) and 272 (Cook), up “only” 39 cases since my January 15 Message. The 14-day active case count is also just 60, the lowest number since mid-December. The IDPH shows DuPage County has dropped from 9% positivity rate on January 12 to 6.8% as of January 22; a sustained decrease after the late December holidays. There has also been a correlating increase in ICU bed availability from over 20% to almost 30%, while DuPage COVID-19 hospital admissions have steadily decreased over the last 6-day period of stats from January 17. The Cook County Health Department dashboard shows a steep decline from January 11 to January 21 (latest information). From New Year Day at 12.1%, the positivity rate dropped to 9% on January 17 (latest information).

Although the nation, states and counties continue to focus on providing mass vaccinations for those that want them, “Mask for US” is still the mantra in 2021. Social distancing remains vitally necessary, as is frequent and thorough hand washing after returning home or encountering others. There have been publications advocating gargling with diluted anti-viral mouthwashes (read up from well-recognized heath publishers if interested) and exercise common sense and caution in all you do. As an aside, the current Flu season has seen about a 98% decline in flu cases. This decline is being attributed to extensive masking, distancing, hand-washing and increased sanitation in homes and businesses, along with smaller and less frequent gathering, and limited travel. I suspect mask-use will be a regular sight in the coming years even when COVID-19 is conquered. After all, COVID is a flu variant and we may well become accustomed to masking, etc. as a way to address all viruses during flu season. As Cook County moved to Tier 1 mitigations last weekend, with DuPage County making the same corresponding move on Tuesday and indoor dining resuming, let’s continue to be vigilant and work together for the common good:
